About the role
Introduction
This role is based in the Saldanha Bay area and focuses on overseeing the asset care management system. The manager must ensure that all engineering activities follow recognised standards, legal requirements and the client’s service objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Allocate work to teams so that results meet client needs and service goals.
- Integrate operational plans with engineering systems to maximise plant availability.
- Review legal requirements and ensure full compliance within the assigned area.
- Provide technical support to operations to reduce engineering risks.
- Prepare short‑, medium‑ and long‑term maintenance plans that align with business objectives.
- Analyse maintenance trends and variances, and take corrective actions.
- Ensure all work complies with legislative rules, engineering standards and specifications.
- Plan and coordinate major shutdowns with internal and external clients, allocating resources on time.
- Identify opportunities for outsourcing or partnerships in maintenance and make recommendations.
- Prepare all project technical documents, ensuring cost and scope stay within agreed limits.
- Oversee procurement technical aspects in line with project scope and organisational procedures.
- Work with stakeholders on technical issues to integrate new technology effectively.
- Develop and manage a quality plan that meets organisational quality standards.
- Review engineering design progress against project plans and objectives.
- Manage construction and commissioning activities according to approved plans and standards.
- Control project funds to stay within the approved budget.
- Assist in preparing the overall budget by providing data on operational needs and financial requirements.
- Set engineering targets that support the production process.
- Provide leadership, training and performance management to the engineering team.
- Foster a collaborative, high‑performance team culture.
Qualification Requirements
- Matriculation (Grade 12) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification, including relevant NATED certificates such as N3.
- A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering together with a GCC (Mines and Works) certificate.
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a Mines Health and Safety Act (MHSA) appointed Engineer after obtaining the GCC.
- Strong knowledge of legal compliance in engineering environments.
- Understanding of technical risk management principles.
- Solid background in maintenance and asset management.
- Project management expertise.
- Good presentation abilities.
- Skills in employee relations and people management.
- Effective time‑management capabilities.
- Competent in administration and financial management.
- Valid driver’s licence (code B, EB or C1).
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Fluent in English.
