SecOps Data Engineers deliver on the data analytics vision to analyse, detect & respond to security threats.

Job Description

As a SecOps Data Engineer, you will identify and deliver new data sources and develop ETL processes. Collaborate with Data Acquisition, Analytics and Infrastructure teams to deliver the data strategy through technology system design and implementation. Support Home Office Cyber Security (HOCS) in analysing problems and data issues, developing solutions, and delivering resilient, scalable, future-proof data solutions. Work closely with Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) and wider HOCS department to scope data engineering work based on research, risks, incidents, and intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing new data models and ETL processes, collaborating in CSOC to build data streaming systems
• Design, build and test data products from multiple system feeds using various storage technologies and access methods
• Apply data modelling principles to produce, maintain and update data models, including reverse engineering from live systems
• Assist in designing, writing, iterating and optimising code from prototype to production-ready
• Undertake data profiling and source system analysis, presenting clear insights to support data use
• Assist in delivering completed data loads for CSOC Engineering, Cyber Detection & Response, Threat Operations & Service Management, including troubleshooting and developing new data load programmes

Working Pattern

Full-time role with job-share and compressed hours available. Occasional travel to other Home Office sites may be required with expenses reimbursed.

Essential Skills

• Experience in IT programming
• Experience with ETL tools, network databases, scheduling and orchestration tools using SPL, KQL & Python within Splunk, AWS & Azure
• Effective communication with diverse stakeholders, translating technical concepts into non-technical language
• Experience managing development and delivery of technical products
• Understanding of Cloud Data technologies and strategies such as AWS or Azure
• Ability to apply data development/engineering techniques or strong aptitude to learn

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Big Data tools and data stores using SQL, KQL, SPL, Python
• Use of modern/open source programming languages and tools for data development/engineering
