(Semantic) Data Engineer

Your Mission

In this role, you will build the foundation for making corporate knowledge from diverse sources structured, semantically linked, and usable for AI applications. You will work at the intersection of Data Engineering, Knowledge Graphs, and modern AI infrastructure, actively shaping how complex data becomes real intelligence. You will operate in an environment that offers ample room for initiative and where you continuously develop new technologies and approaches. This position arises due to growing project requirements in a highly project-driven environment with a focus on AI, modern data platforms, and enterprise clients.

What awaits you:

• You work with our clients on the conception, construction, and maintenance of data platforms – from data acquisition at the source to provision for users.
• You develop and design reliable, user-friendly data platforms within a Microsoft ecosystem and create efficient data pipelines with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and/or Microsoft Fabric.
• You are responsible for creating high-performance data models using Python, SQL, PySpark or SparkSQL (from dimensional modeling to second and third normal form).
• You build and operate preprocessing and ETL pipelines for structured and unstructured data, ensuring data quality, consistency, and traceability.
• You analyze existing documentation, legacy systems, and codebases and prepare them in a structured way for modern data and AI applications.
• You work with Knowledge Graphs, Vector Databases, and Embeddings to implement semantic search and AI use cases.
• You manage customer environments with Azure DevOps and are responsible for orchestration, security, and deployment pipelines.

Your Profile

• You have relevant professional experience in a similar role in Data Engineering and are familiar with Azure Data Factory, Azure Foundry, Azure Synapse Analytics and/or Azure Databricks.
• You are enthusiastic about the latest developments in the Data & AI field and enjoy experimenting with new technologies.
• You know how to process large amounts of data efficiently and are familiar with Python, SQL, PySpark, and SparkSQL.
• You have experience with customer consulting, project management, and stakeholder management and work in a structured and solution-oriented manner.
• You have very strong communication skills in German and English to interact effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients.
• You ideally have experience in processing and structuring documents and initial exposure to NLP, Knowledge Graphs, or Vector Databases.
• As a plus, you bring agile working experience (e.g., Scrum), DevOps knowledge, and experience with tools like Azure DevOps Boards or JIRA.
