Position Objective:
We are seeking a Senior Accountant who will be responsible for executing core accounting functions with a focus on accounts payable integrity, month-end close accuracy, balance sheet reconciliations, job costing, and union labor payroll accounting.
Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for executing core accounting functions with a focus on accounts payable integrity, month-end close accuracy, balance sheet reconciliations, job costing, and union labor payroll accounting. This role ensures financial data is timely, accurate, and aligned with operational activity, supporting both financial reporting and cash flow management.
Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable (AP) Management
- Process AP invoices for completeness, accuracy, and proper authorization (PO, receipt confirmation, invoice match)
- Ensure accurate job costing, GL coding, and cost allocation prior to processing.
- Enforce AP policies and internal controls to prevent duplicate, disputed, or unsupported payments
- Partner with operations to resolve discrepancies and ensure alignment with field activity.
- Monitor AP aging and support working capital optimization
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Execute a timely and accurate month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reclasses.
- Ensure adherence to the matching principle (expenses recorded in the correct period)
- Support internal reporting packages and operational reviews
Balance Sheet Reconciliations & Controls
- Prepare, review, and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations with clear supporting documentation and aging analysis, including:
- Cash – bank reconciliations, outstanding items resolution
- Accounts Receivable (AR) – subledger to GL tie-out, aging review, unapplied cash
- Accounts Payable (AP) – subledger to GL reconciliation, accrued liabilities completeness
- Fixed Assets – additions, disposals, depreciation accuracy
- Prepaids & Other Current Assets – amortization schedules and proper expense recognition
- Payroll & Union Liabilities – wages, fringes, benefits, and accruals
- WIP / Job Cost Accounts – cost in excess and billings in excess validation
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items timely; no aged or unsupported balances.
- Maintain a standardized reconciliation package to support internal review
Job Costing & WIP Accounting
- Maintain integrity of job cost data across all projects
- Work with operations team to review and validate:
- Labor, material, and subcontractor allocations
- Cost-to-complete estimates and margin assumptions
- Record WIP revenue adjustments
- Support WIP schedules, including under/overbillings
- Identify and resolve “cost no bill” and “bill no cost” discrepancies.
- Annual update standard costs assumptions
- Assist with revenue recognition aligned to project progress
Union Labor & Payroll Accounting
- Process union payroll, including wages, benefits, fringes, and dues
- Reconcile payroll reports to the GL and job costing system
- Ensure accurate labor cost allocation to jobs and cost centers
- Track and reconcile union-related accruals and obligations
- Partner with HR/ and or Leadership to ensure compliance with union agreements
Cash Flow & Cross-Functional Support
- Align AP, payroll, and job costing activity with cash flow and working capital management
- Support audits with complete, audit-ready schedules and documentation
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure financials reflect true operational performance
- Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen controls
Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of accounting experience (construction, manufacturing, or service-based industry preferred)
Experience:
- Strong experience with:
- Balance sheet reconciliations and close processes
- Job costing and WIP accounting
- AP controls and payroll accounting (union preferred)
- ERP system experience (job costing systems preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills

$80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
