About the role

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This role supports the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, performs detailed account reconciliations, maintains compliance documentation and internal controls, and prepares financial reports and analyses. The position also serves as a resource for union members regarding benefit plan inquiries and related financial matters. An Accounting degree is required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards. • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and financial reconciliations. • Perform reconciliations for complex accounts such as cash, prepaid expenses, intercompany balances, and other assigned accounts. • Maintain and support internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and operational efficiency. • Provide support during external audits and assist with tax-related filings, including Forms 941, 945, 1099, and 1099-R, by preparing and organizing required documentation. • Prepare financial reports, analyses, and ad hoc reporting requests for leadership using advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables and complex formulas. • Partner with the Finance Director on special projects, process improvements, and other departmental initiatives. • Perform additional accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience. • Experience working with financial systems, preferably Oracle, including journal entries, accounts payable, reconciliations, month-end close activities, and financial data analysis. • Prior experience in a financial services or benefits administration environment, particularly involving large data sets, is preferred.

• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, IF statements, SUM formulas, and other advanced functions. • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. • Self-motivated team player with a continuous improvement mindset. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
