We are a growing, client-focused CPA firm in Georgetown, Delaware seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to take a lead role in managing tax engagements and client relationships.
This position is ideal for a confident, detail-oriented tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, handling complex returns, and taking ownership of engagements from start to finish. You’ll have the autonomy to manage your workload with minimal supervision and the opportunity to mentor junior staff while working closely with partners in a collaborative environment.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will serve as a key point of contact for clients and play a central role in delivering high-quality tax and accounting services:
- Independently prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, S-Corps, C-Corps, partnerships, trusts, and estates
- Lead client engagements from planning through completion, including deadlines, deliverables, and workflow management
- Provide proactive tax planning, research, and advisory support for a diverse client base
- Communicate directly with clients to gather information, resolve issues, and explain results in a clear and professional manner
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance across all workpapers and filings
- Mentor and support junior team members as needed
- Contribute to process improvements and firm growth initiatives
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of public accounting experience with increasing responsibility
- Strong experience preparing and/or reviewing complex tax returns
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements independently
- Solid understanding of federal and state tax regulations
- Experience with UltraTax CS (or similar tax software)
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online
- Strong communication skills with a client-first mindset
- Organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment
- CPA license preferred or actively pursuing
Bonus Experience:
- Trust and estate tax experience
- Familiarity with Thomson Reuters CS Suite
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation based on experience and responsibility level
- Clear opportunities for advancement and increased leadership responsibility
- Direct access to partners and meaningful involvement in firm decisions
- Supportive, team-oriented culture with reduced hours outside of tax season
- Professional development and CPA support
- Flexible scheduling where possible
- Paid time off, sick leave, parental leave, and retirement plan
Why This Role Is Different
This is not a “preparer-only” role. You will be trusted to run engagements, communicate with clients, and operate as a key member of the firm’s tax leadership team.
If you’re looking for a role where you can take ownership of your work, build strong client relationships, and grow into a leadership position within a smaller, high-touch firm environment, this is a strong fit.
