As we expand, we are seeking a Senior Accountant who understands the unique financial operations of a commission‑based insurance environment and is ready to grow with us.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will oversee all accounting functions related to sales commissions, advance commissions, and 1099 contractor compensation.

This role requires strong analytical skills, deep familiarity with health‑insurance commission structures, and the ability to manage complex financial data with accuracy and consistency. You will report directly to the Operations Department and serve as a key partner in improving processes, ensuring compliance, and supporting organizational growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of commission accounting, including calculations, adjustments, chargebacks, and reconciliations.
  • Process and track advance commissions, including amortization schedules, recovery tracking, and policy‑level accuracy.
  • Maintain commission structures for 1099 agents, including rate tables, overrides, hierarchies, and payout rules.
  • Reconcile carrier commission statements with internal production data; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on commissions, revenue, and agent performance for Operations leadership.
  • Support month‑end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Sales, and Compliance to ensure commission processes align with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Assist with audits, financial reviews, and documentation related to commissions and agent compensation.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve data accuracy, and enhance reporting tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in health insurance, brokerage, or commission‑driven environments.
  • Strong understanding of advance commissions, chargebacks, and 1099 contractor compensation.
  • Experience reconciling carrier statements and managing complex commission structures.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas).
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines, and communicate effectively across departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FMO/IMO structures or multi‑level agent hierarchies.
  • Knowledge of limited medical, or supplemental insurance commission models.
  • Experience improving or implementing commission processes or systems.
