About the role

Our client, a well-established and growing organization, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join their fully remote finance team. This role is critical for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, contributing to strategic financial planning, and maintaining robust internal controls. You will be responsible for preparing financial statements, managing general ledger activities, and supporting audits. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a remote work environment.

Responsibilities: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP). Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all deadlines are met. Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions. Perform variance analysis and provide explanations for significant fluctuations in financial results. Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, and monitor performance against these targets. Support external audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries. Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as needed, ensuring timely and accurate processing. Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulations, and assess their impact on the company's financial reporting. Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function and implement solutions. Collaborate effectively with other departments to gather necessary financial information and support their needs. Mentor and guide junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and professional team environment. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent is highly preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, with a strong focus on financial reporting and general ledger management. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP) and financial reporting requirements. Proven experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fully remote setting. High degree of integrity and professionalism. Experience in audit support is a significant advantage. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere, ideally with connectivity to Maiduguri, Borno, NG .
