Paymira
Rapperswil-Jona · flexible Full-time Senior Yesterday
About the role
At Paymira, our mission is to fully automate payroll for organizations while enhancing the employee experience and financial well-being. We use cutting-edge technology to provide a payroll service that combines the highest levels of automation with an outstanding customer experience.
In the age of AI, we see tremendous opportunities to redefine the way payroll services are delivered. Do you want to be part of this exciting change and help shape the future?
Tasks
- Design and operate backend services powering the payroll platform, REST/gRPC APIs and event-driven architectures on AWS (EKS, S3, RDS, Bedrock)
- Integrate LLMs into production services: prompt engineering, API orchestration, and AI agent workflows for use cases such as document extraction (e.g. contracts, policies), automated routing and resolution of service requests, and personalized employee-facing assistants.
- Own and evolve cloud infrastructure using Terraform or Pulumi, and build CI/CD pipelines
- Run Kubernetes in production, deploy, scale, debug, and optimize services for reliability and performance
- Build and own observability end-to-end: monitoring, alerting, and dashboards to keep production healthy
- Automation of workflows: Identification and implementation of automation opportunities, e.g. in data exchange with authorities, insurance companies and other stakeholders.
- Evaluate and integrate AI tools and services that fit our architecture and bring AI-powered features from prototype to production.
- Make system design and architecture decisions with real influence over how the platform is built.
Requirements
Technical skills:
- Proven excellence in at least one backend language. Kotlin and/or Python is a plus, but clean, maintainable code matters more than the specific language.
- Deep AWS experience (EKS, S3, RDS, Bedrock)
- Strong Kubernetes expertise in production environments
- Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform or Pulumi
- CI/CD pipeline design (Gitlab, Github Actions or equivalent)
- Experience with LLM APIs (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI, AWS Bedrock), embedding models, and AI orchestration patterns such as tool calling and guardrails.
- Experience in API integration and system interoperability.
Hands-on experience:
- Track record of shipping AI-powered features to production, including LLM integration, prompt engineering, and API orchestration.
- Experience building AI agent workflows (DSPy, Hugging Face stack, or similar) that deliver real business value.
- You've built monitoring, alerting, and dashboards and used them to debug production incidents.
Soft Skills:
- Entrepreneurial mindset, initiative and ability to work in a dynamic startup environment.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking.
- Communication skills to convey complex technical solutions in an understandable way.
Education and experience:
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend/platform engineering, with 2+ years focused on AI/ML. Background in payroll, HR-tech, FinTech, or B2B SaaS is a plus.
Nice-to-haves:
- Fine-tuning or training ML models / MLOps experience.
- Frontend experience, most notably React and TypeScript.
Benefits
- The once in a lifetime opportunity to work with experienced serial entrepreneurs on a new project. You will be one of the first employees.
- Attractive salary package with access to company shares (ESOP).
- Flexible working hours with the option to work remotely.
- Professional development opportunities and support for continuous learning.
- A collaborative and innovative work environment.
