Senior Algorithm R&D Engineer (Computational Imaging)

European Tech Recruit

France · On-site Contract Senior 3d ago

About the role

European Tech Recruit are partnering with a globally recognised, research-led technology organisation to find an Senior Algorithm R&D Engineer. Operating at the forefront of computational imaging, mobile vision systems, and next-generation hardware-software integration, this company is responsible for delivering cutting-edge imaging technologies used at massive global scale.

With a strong track record of innovation and deployment across high-end consumer devices, the organisation is focused on building best-in-class camera systems that combine advanced algorithms, sensor technologies, and AI-driven pipelines to push the boundaries of mobile imaging performance.

Their teams bring together leading experts across imaging, optics, silicon, and AI, creating a highly collaborative environment where research directly translates into real-world impact.

As an Senior Algorithm R&D Engineer, you will act as a technical authority in computational imaging, driving the design and optimisation of next-generation camera systems. This is a highly strategic and hands-on role, focused on advancing core imaging algorithms and system-level architecture, not just incremental feature development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of advanced computational imaging algorithms
  • Serve as a technical authority in pixel reconstruction, image processing, and camera pipelines
  • Define and execute the roadmap for core imaging capabilities, including: Denoising, Super-resolution, Depth estimation and bokeh rendering, Multi-frame fusion
  • Drive improvements in image and video quality across both objective and perceptual metrics
  • Influence end-to-end camera system architecture, spanning ISP, sensors, optics, and AI pipelines
  • Propose and implement hardware–software co-design solutions, balancing performance, power, and latency
  • Optimize algorithms for embedded and real-time environments under strict system constraints
  • Lead end-to-end validation, including simulation, prototyping, and benchmarking
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams across ISP design, sensors, optics, and product integration
  • Mentor senior engineers and contribute to technical leadership at a global level

Required Experience & Skills

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Vision, Computational Imaging, or a related field
  • 15+ years of industry experience in mobile imaging or camera systems development
  • Deep expertise in end-to-end camera system design, including: Image sensors, Optics and mechanics, Autofocus and stabilization systems, Image signal processing pipelines
  • Proven experience developing and deploying computational imaging algorithms in production environments
  • Strong background in image processing and computer vision techniques
  • Experience optimizing algorithms for embedded hardware platforms under real-world constraints (power, memory, latency)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives
  • Strong problem-solving skills and first-principles thinking

Why Apply?

  • Define the future of mobile and computational imaging technologies
  • Work on systems deployed across millions of devices globally
  • Operate in a high-impact, research-driven environment with real product ownership
  • Collaborate with leading experts across multiple technical domains
  • Competitive compensation, long-term growth, and strong technical influence

Recruiter’s Note

We are specifically targeting engineers who have designed and built imaging systems at a fundamental level, not just tuned or integrated existing solutions. If you’ve driven algorithmic innovation, system-level decisions, and real-world deployment at scale, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape next-generation camera technology.

Candidates with under 10 years of industry experience in this area cannot be considered. The successful Senior Algorithm R&D Engineer is most likely to have 15+ years.
