As a Senior Autonomous Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of algorithms and software components that form the basis for autonomous systems. This includes sensor fusion, 3D perception, object tracking, localization, and the evaluation of dynamic environments. In this role, you will work closely with experts from AI, robotics, software development, and industry sectors. You will shape technical architecture decisions, ensure the quality of sensor integration, and contribute significantly to making autonomous systems production-ready and deployable.

Your future duties and responsibilities

In this role, you will develop the central perception and understanding functions of an autonomous system. You will ensure that data from various sensors are reliably merged and that a precise image of the environment is created, on the basis of which autonomous decisions can be made.

Your tasks include:

• You are responsible for the development of algorithms for sensor fusion, 3D perception, object recognition, tracking, and scene interpretation.
• You implement robust software components in C++ and Python for processing LiDAR, radar, camera, and IMU data.
• You take over the creation and further development of modules for localization and mapping, including through the use of SLAM or state estimation methods.
• You conduct simulations, tests, and validations of algorithms in real robotic systems or vehicles.
• You are also responsible for optimizing perception and fusion pipelines for embedded or edge hardware, for example through targeted model adjustments or hardware acceleration.
• You work closely with interdisciplinary teams to embed autonomous functions into existing software architectures and design consistently testable components.
• Finally, you take over the technical consulting of our clients and the joint evaluation of how autonomous functions can be translated into concrete use cases.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

You possess the seniority, experience, and analytical depth to develop demanding perception and localization systems for autonomous platforms. You have a strong understanding of sensor technology, algorithms, and software quality, and you work confidently on complex technical challenges.

What you should bring:

• You have many years of professional experience in the fields of autonomous systems, robotics, sensor fusion, or computer vision.
• You have a profound understanding of 3D perception methods and the processing of LiDAR and radar data as well as camera and IMU sensor technology.
• You have experience with algorithms for SLAM, state estimation, Kalman filter variants, particle filters, or comparable motion estimation methods.
• You have knowledge of common models such as (BEV-Transformer, Trajectron++, Neural Motion Fields).
• You have knowledge of frameworks and libraries such as ROS2, PCL, OpenCV, Eigen, GTSAM, or similar toolchains for robotics and autonomous systems.
• You have experience working with hardware platforms such as mobile robots, autonomous vehicles, drones, AGVs, or similar systems.
• You have a structured, comprehensible communication style with which you convincingly present technical decisions and professionally advise clients and internal teams.
• You also have very good German and English language skills.
