Senior Aviation Systems Engineer - Remote Mission Critical Roles

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Aviation Systems Engineer to join our fully remote, globally distributed team. This critical role involves the design, integration, testing, and support of complex aviation systems, with a focus on mission-critical applications. You will work on cutting-edge projects, contributing to the development of next-generation aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This position offers the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa.

Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and integrate complex aviation systems, including avionics, flight control systems, communication systems, and navigation systems. Perform systems engineering activities such as requirements definition, architecture design, interface control, and verification & validation. Develop and maintain system models, simulations, and performance analyses using specialized engineering software. Conduct trade studies and technology evaluations to select the optimal systems and components. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, hardware engineers, aerodynamics specialists, and manufacturing teams, in a remote environment. Author and review technical documentation, including system specifications, test plans, test reports, and user manuals. Lead and participate in design reviews and technical interchange meetings. Troubleshoot and resolve system issues during development, testing, and operational phases. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in aviation technology, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with safety-critical system design principles and aerospace certification standards. Qualifications: Master's degree or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in aviation systems engineering, with a strong focus on complex system design and integration. Proven experience with avionics systems, flight control laws, navigation systems (e.g., GPS, INS), and communication protocols. Proficiency in systems engineering tools and methodologies (e.g., DOORS, SysML, Model-Based Systems Engineering). Experience with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink). Strong understanding of aerospace standards (e.g., DO-160, DO-178C, MIL-STD-810). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to address complex technical challenges. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, effective for remote collaboration. Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet demanding project deadlines.
