As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will have the chance to design and manage high‑scale backend systems that significantly enhance real‑life healthcare experiences. You will collaborate with diverse teams across engineering, product, analytics, and operations to develop serverless systems and reliable Python services. This position is based in Norwalk, CT, and is part of a team dedicated to improving healthcare infrastructure and outcomes for our members.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in backend engineering with production‑level systems
  • Proficient in AWS serverless technologies and event‑driven architecture
  • Experience in developing both B2C and B2B platforms handling high‑volume data and transactions
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions, Infrastructure as Code, automated pipelines, and collaborative work across teams
  • Strong foundation in Python, emphasizing test‑driven development, clean architecture, and modular coding
  • Expertise in creating scalable RESTful APIs
  • In‑depth knowledge of distributed systems, scalability, and observability principles
  • Competence with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, RDS, caching mechanisms, and schema design
  • Strong communication abilities and a proactive, ownership‑oriented attitude
  • Bonus: background in healthcare EDI (837/834), claims processing, HIPAA compliance, or payer systems

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement large‑scale, durable serverless systems utilizing AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, and Kafka
  • Architect workflows that are fault‑tolerant and support essential healthcare operations
  • Develop backend APIs for both member‑facing and partner‑integrated applications
  • Create high‑quality, test‑driven Python services with emphasis on reliability and maintainability
  • Ensure secure and compliant data flows that adhere to healthcare privacy regulations
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering and Analytics teams to maintain accuracy and consistency of healthcare data
  • Own the complete service lifecycle through design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
  • Build and sustain CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and observability dashboards
  • Enhance reliability through automated rollbacks, canary deployments, alerts, and well‑structured Service Level Objectives
  • Drive discussions across functional teams to propose scalable long‑term solutions
  • Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to fostering a robust engineering culture and technical standards
