Senior Civil Engineer - Geotechnical Engineering

About Our Client

Our client, a renowned engineering consultancy firm, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering to join their dynamic team in Welkom, Free State, ZA. This role is pivotal in ensuring the stability and integrity of major infrastructure projects, including dams, bridges, tunnels, and commercial developments.

Your Role

You will lead and manage geotechnical investigations, analyze site conditions, and provide expert design recommendations to mitigate risks associated with soil and rock mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Planning and overseeing subsurface investigations, including drilling, soil testing, and geophysical surveys
• Analyzing geotechnical data using specialized software (e.g., GeoStudio, Plaxis)
• Designing foundations, retaining walls, slopes, and other geotechnical structures
• Developing detailed technical reports and specifications for construction
• Providing expert consultation during the construction phase to address any geotechnical challenges that arise
• Ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations
• Mentoring and guiding junior engineers and technical staff
• Collaborating effectively with project managers, clients, and construction teams
• Contributing to business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities and assisting in proposal preparation

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in the field
• Professional Engineer (PrEng) registration with ECSA is mandatory
• Proven expertise in foundation design, slope stability analysis, seismic analysis, and ground improvement techniques
• Proficiency with geotechnical modeling software
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills are critical for success in this role
• You must be adept at managing complex projects, making sound technical decisions, and fostering strong client relationships

Work Environment

This position requires full-time commitment at our Welkom, Free State, ZA office, with potential for site visits to project locations.
