Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Project Engineer to oversee and manage complex infrastructure projects from conception through to completion. Based in our Sandton, Gauteng, ZA office, you will be responsible for project planning, design review, budget management, resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with all relevant engineering standards and regulations. This role demands exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and a proven ability to deliver large‑scale civil engineering projects on time and within budget. You will work closely with a team of engineers, architects, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the entire lifecycle of civil engineering projects, including planning, design, procurement, construction, and closeout.
- Conduct feasibility studies and site investigations to determine project viability.
- Review and approve engineering designs and drawings prepared by internal teams and external consultants.
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and implement cost‑control measures.
- Oversee the procurement of materials and services, and manage contractor performance.
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant building codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project staff.
- Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
- Identify and mitigate project risks.
- Conduct site inspections to monitor progress and ensure quality of work.
- Prepare and present project reports to senior management and clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is essential.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in civil engineering project management.
- Proven experience managing large‑scale infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, bridges, water systems).
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D), and construction methods.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and schedules effectively.
- Experience with contract administration and dispute resolution.
- Proficiency in project management software.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
