About the role

Your role in the team

  • As a Senior Cloud Operations Engineer (m/f/d), you will shape the development and be responsible for the operation of key infrastructure services in our public cloud environment.
  • In the newly established Cloud Infrastructure Operations Team at IT.NRW, we design, implement, and manage a modern cloud environment, including the supporting services for secure operation.
  • Your main activity:
    • They administer critical server services (including DNS, LDAP, proxy) as well as configuration (Config) and patch management in cloud environments.
    • They design infrastructure services based on varying requirements, such as Automated Auditing or Observability.
    • They identify optimization potentials in automation and actively drive their technological implementation forward.
    • They implement security requirements in accordance with BSI standards to secure data and applications in the cloud.

Our expectations:

Qualifications

  • You bring with you:
    • Expertise in the use of public clouds (e.g., IONOS, AWS, Azure, GCP).
    • Know-how in the use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Git, Ansible, Terraform).
    • Expertise in orchestrating server deployments (provisioning).
    • Proficient in German (spoken and written).
  • Additionally desirable are:
    • Know-how in the development and use of CI/CD pipelines, ideally with GitLab CI/CD/Runner.
  • Your personality:
    • Team spirit, open-minded in dealing with changes.
    • Structured and analytical working style, good at understanding contexts.
    • Willingness to learn.

Experience

  • Experience in at least one of the following infrastructure services: Active Directory & DNS, Remote Desktop Gateways, Windows Server configuration and patch management, Linux Server configuration and patch management.
  • At least three years of practical experience in the fields mentioned above.
  • Practical experience in managing infrastructure resources using IBM Terraform.
  • Experience in using (REST) APIs.

Education

  • Completed university of applied sciences or bachelor's degree in information technology, mathematics, physics, or in a course of study related to IT.
  • Alternative to university: qualification as an Operational Professional or extensive relevant professional experience in IT.
