A leading construction firm is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Project Manager to oversee significant infrastructure projects in and around Bloemfontein, Free State, ZA. This role is critical for ensuring the successful planning, execution, and completion of complex civil engineering and construction projects, adhering to strict timelines, budgets, and quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in large-scale infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, water systems, or similar projects. You will be responsible for managing all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies and design reviews to procurement, construction, and final handover. Key duties include developing detailed project plans, managing project budgets and controlling costs, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring site safety compliance, and liaising with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders. The ability to lead and motivate project teams, resolve conflicts, and make critical decisions under pressure is essential. A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction project management. Professional certifications such as Pr. Eng or PMP are highly advantageous. Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, regulations, and contract management is a must. This is an on-site role requiring excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to deliver high-impact infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of major infrastructure construction projects.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
  • Oversee and control project costs, ensuring projects remain within budget.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and quality standards on construction sites.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, engineers, architects, government officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Mitigate project risks and develop contingency plans to address potential issues.
  • Review and approve project designs, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Manage contract negotiations and administer construction contracts.
  • Prepare regular project status reports for senior management and clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction project management, with a focus on infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale construction projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and materials.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies, risk management, and quality control.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a strong asset.
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and negotiations.
