Role Overview
As a key player in our organization, the Senior Consultant, Technical Writer serves as an Asset Owner responsible for the design, deployment, adoption, and sustainability of analytical assets. You will collaborate with actuarial modelers, data scientists, and data engineers to create high-quality, consistent, and compliant documentation throughout the model lifecycle.
Your role is crucial in translating complex analytical and engineering concepts into clear and structured documentation and executive-ready materials. Serving as a trusted documentation expert, you will influence the quality and consistency of our documentation practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with actuarial and data teams as the primary documentation expert for modeling assets.
- Create and maintain comprehensive model documentation that spans the entire analytical lifecycle.
- Utilize Markdown format and modern IDEs like VS Code to produce and manage documentation.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to Model Risk Management standards and aligns with industry best practices.
- Review and enhance documentation from model developers for clarity, consistency, and precision.
- Participate in model peer reviews and facilitate feedback synthesis and documentation updates.
- Develop visuals, data flow diagrams, and model design artifacts using tools such as Visio or draw.io.
- Create impactful presentations and materials for department leadership that clearly communicate modeling concepts and results.
- Manage multiple projects across various lines of business, balancing priorities while maintaining high-quality documentation.
- Oversee documentation lifecycle activities, ensuring effective versioning, archiving, and accessibility through GitHub and SharePoint.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of internal documentation resources on SharePoint.
- Utilize modern tools and practices, including familiarity with Python workflows, GitHub processes, and docs-as-code methods.
- Identify and implement improvements to documentation processes, templates, and standards.
- Support Agile methodologies by aligning documentation updates with sprint cycles.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Graduate degree with 2+ years of experience, or a bachelor's degree with 4+ years in a technical, quantitative, or writing-heavy field.
- Proven experience in writing technical documentation for analytical, actuarial, or data science-related projects.
- Experience documenting models throughout the model lifecycle, from development to implementation.
- Ability to simplify complex technical concepts into clear, structured documentation suitable for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with Markdown and modern documentation workflows.
- Experience collaborating with data scientists and engineers, including reviewing Python code.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office tools, especially Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects and collaborate across teams effectively.
- A self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Model Risk Management frameworks or documentation standards such as SR 11-7.
- Background in insurance or financial services, particularly in pricing, underwriting, or actuarial analytics.
- Familiarity with Sphinx or static site generation tools for structured authoring.
- Experience using GitHub and GenAI tools like Copilot.
- Understanding of Agile principles or Product Owner roles.
- Previous involvement in peer reviews or remediation efforts related to documentation for risk or audit compliance.
Work Arrangement
This role offers a Hybrid or Remote work schedule. Candidates located near one of our office locations are expected to work in the office three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday.
Compensation
The annual base pay range for this role is $94,000 - $141,000, based on market analysis. Actual pay may vary based on performance and demonstrated skills. This range serves as a guideline and doesn't encompass the full compensation package, which may also include bonuses and incentives.
