Netzoptimal is an energy tech startup based in St. Gallen, Switzerland, founded in 2024. We build advanced control and optimization software that enables distribution grid operators and energy suppliers to integrate renewable energy efficiently – without costly grid expansion.

Our mission is to make the energy transition scalable by unlocking the full potential of existing grid infrastructure through intelligent, model-based control.

Your Role

As a Senior Control System Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping our core technology and delivering impactful solutions to real-world grid challenges.

You will:

• Develop and implement models for electrical grids and distributed energy resources
• Design and deploy advanced control and optimization algorithms
• Work on real-world customer projects – from concept to commissioning
• Analyze system performance and continuously improve reliability and efficiency
• Troubleshoot and optimize control systems in operational environments
• Collaborate closely with customers and contribute to product development

Your Profile

• Strong background in modelling, model-based control, and optimization
• Proven track record in solving complex engineering problems
• MSc or PhD in Control Systems Engineering or a related field
• Experience in project management or customer-facing roles
• Experience in energy systems or utilities is a plus
• Ability to work independently and take ownership in a startup environment
• Strong communication skills in German and English
