Role Overview

Seeking a Conversation Designer who understands agentic commerce transforming interactions from static scripts into adaptive, AI-mediated exchanges. This role blends conversational design, experience design, and structured content strategy to craft intelligent dialogue systems that are brand-forward, agent-compatible, and continuously optimized.

Design AI-native conversational ecosystems enabling brands to effectively engage where intelligent agents shape discovery, guide decision-making, negotiate value, and act on behalf of customers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Define how brands behave across adaptive, agent-mediated interactions.
  • Map dynamic conversational journeys evolving based on agent inference, contextual signals, and user intent.
  • Design structured dialogue architectures supporting human-agent and agent-to-agent interactions.
  • Ensure conversational systems include decision support frameworks for intelligent agents.
  • Translate brand voice into machine-operable behavioral guidelines for AI-driven exchanges.
  • Craft modular conversational flows balancing brand personality with clarity and agent-friendly structure.
  • Design slot-filling patterns, prompt scaffolds, fallback states, and escalation paths.
  • Create reusable conversation components supporting personalization and optimization at scale.
  • Design repair strategies and trust-building mechanisms for low AI confidence or high ambiguity.
  • Develop taxonomies of intents, entities, and conversational variables.
  • Write modular, semantically tagged content improving agent comprehension and retrieval accuracy.
  • Design conversational patterns surfacing high-quality signals for GEO/AEO optimization.
  • Collaborate with content strategists and optimization teams to improve findability, answer quality, and agent preference.
  • Partner with GEO practitioners and data teams to translate model insights into conversational refinements.
  • Design experiments testing tone, framing, response length, structured prompts, and negotiation patterns.
  • Monitor interaction performance and identify opportunities to improve clarity, trust, and conversion outcomes.
  • Ensure conversational systems evolve responsibly through structured testing and signal analysis.
  • Craft explainability patterns clarifying agent reasoning and decision pathways.
  • Design consent and confirmation flows for agent-initiated transactions.
  • Avoid dark patterns and ensure ethical behavioral design principles guide persuasive interactions.
  • Define escalation models where human intervention enhances safety and confidence.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing conversational systems for chat, voice, multimodal, or AI-assisted commerce environments.
  • Strong understanding of intent modeling, conversational taxonomies, and structured content systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Linguistics, Communications, or related field.
  • Industry experience in Retail and Consumer Goods & Services.
  • Exceptional writing skills translating brand voice into structured dialogue systems.
  • Experience collaborating with product, engineering, and data teams on AI-enabled experiences.
  • Familiarity with Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) principles.
  • Proficient in developing conversational prototypes, documentation, and training materials.
  • Passion for innovation and commitment to responsible AI-driven interaction models.

Compensation

Annual salary ranges vary by location, e.g., California $94,400 to $266,300; Cleveland $87,400 to $213,000; New York $87,400 to $266,300; Washington $100,500 to $245,000, among others.
