About the role
Our client, a prominent manufacturing firm based in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti, NG , is seeking an experienced and diligent Senior Cost Accountant to oversee and enhance their cost accounting functions. This is a critical on-site role responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of cost data, driving efficiency, and providing vital financial insights to support operational and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of cost accounting principles, strong analytical abilities, and a proven track record in managing complex cost systems within a manufacturing environment.
As a Senior Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining cost accounting systems and procedures. Your duties will include analyzing manufacturing costs, variances, and inventory valuations, preparing detailed cost reports, and collaborating with production and operational teams to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements. You will also play a key role in budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring that cost projections are accurate and achievable. The ability to interpret financial data and communicate findings clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders is essential. This position requires a meticulous approach, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and maintain robust cost accounting systems and procedures. Analyze manufacturing costs, including material, labor, and overhead, and identify significant variances. Perform inventory valuation, costing, and cycle count procedures. Prepare detailed cost reports, analyses, and presentations for management review. Collaborate with operations, production, and engineering teams to understand cost drivers and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements. Assist in the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, focusing on cost elements. Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements related to cost accounting. Evaluate and improve existing cost accounting methods and practices. Support internal and external audits related to cost accounting. Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production costs and efficiency. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification such as ACCA, CMA, or equivalent is highly desirable. Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing setting. In-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles, methods, and systems (e.g., standard costing, activity-based costing). Proficiency in accounting software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Experience with ERP systems is essential.
