Job Summary

The Senior Cost Accountant Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing cost accounting activities within our manufacturing operations, including inventory valuation, standard costing, and variance analysis. This role collaborates with operations leadership to drive improvements in financial performance, support strategic decision-making, and ensure accurate manufacturing cost reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Monitor manufacturing variances and provide detailed production performance analyses.
  • Prepare and review inventory reconciliations, cycle count adjustments, and physical inventory results.
  • Analyze costs of goods sold (COGS), inventory reserves, scrap, and manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Work closely with operations and plant leadership to uncover cost-saving opportunities and enhance processes.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Manage the fixed asset ledger, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and reconciliations to the general ledger.
  • Oversee Construction in Progress (CIP) tracking, ensuring timely accumulation of costs and proper capitalization policies.
  • Help with budgeting, forecasting, and annual standard cost roll processes.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting reports, KPIs, and financial dashboards.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and GAAP standards.
  • Support external audits by providing required financial documentation and analyses.
  • Assist with ERP system enhancements, costing updates, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with purchasing, supply chain, and production teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial settings.
  • Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis.
  • Knowledgeable in GAAP and manufacturing financial processes.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with NetSuite is an advantage.
