About the role
About the Role
Looking to hire a Sr. Data Engineer with strong HR/People Analytics experience. This is a critical, project-focused role designed to lead the strategic transformation of our local people analytics infrastructure. The role will be responsible for migrating business-critical HR analytics pipelines from legacy environments (Access/VBA) to a modern Power BI Fabric cloud platform. The role is to rebuild the Mandatory Training Dashboard—a vital tool for audit and regulatory compliance—ensuring it is resilient, documented, and maintainable.
Key Responsibilities
- Legacy Migration: Reverse-engineer existing logic residing in Access macros, VBA, SQL, and Python scripts to migrate the pipeline into Power Query (M) on Power BI Fabric (Gen2 dataflows, lakehouses).
- System Design: Implement resilient source switching to handle semi-automated exports from SuccessFactors, Cornerstone, and SharePoint.
- Data Validation: Conduct rigorous data quality checks to ensure the new solution matches legacy outputs with 100% accuracy.
- Documentation: Create comprehensive data dictionaries, process maps, and logic documentation specifically designed for non-technical maintainers.
- Parallel Development: Maintain the operational status of the current solution while simultaneously building the modernized replacement.
Must have skills/experience/qualifications
A minimum of 5+yrs of the following:
- Power BI Fabric (Essential): Hands-on experience with Fabric workspaces, Gen2 dataflows, and lakehouses. This is a non-negotiable requirement due to the project timeline.
- SQL (Intermediate): Proficiency in writing/optimizing joins, CTEs, and subqueries, with the ability to translate SQL logic into Power Query.
- Data Modeling: Strong understanding of Star Schema, slowly changing dimensions, and bridge tables optimized for Power BI/DAX.
- Python (Intermediate): Ability to read and interpret Pandas data manipulation scripts and existing ETL workflows.
- Power Query (M Language): Foundational knowledge with a commitment to building exclusively in M for long-term maintainability.
- Legacy Interpretation: Ability to navigate and extract logic from Microsoft Access databases (tables, queries, macros).
- SharePoint ETL: Experience using SharePoint as a data layer for file-based workflows (Excel export ingestion).
- Domain Expertise: Prior experience handling HR/People data and sensitive information is essential.
- Adaptability: Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, transitional settings with sparse documentation and high ambiguity.
- Communication: Strong documentation habits and the ability to explain complex technical logic to non-technical stakeholders.
- Pragmatism: A focus on delivering maintainable, "no-code/low-code" solutions (favoring Power Query over complex scripting) for long-term business ease of use.
