Senior Composites Design Engineer
Hunter Crown, LLC
About the role
About
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a structural or materials expert to join a premier manufacturer of advanced infrastructure systems. As a key technical authority within the organization, you will spearhead the development of fiber-reinforced polymer solutions that address critical environmental and structural challenges. This role is designed for a professional who thrives at the intersection of sophisticated engineering and practical manufacturing, providing the chance to influence the next generation of essential infrastructure products used throughout North America.
What This Professional Will Own
The Senior Composites Design Engineer will be the primary technical architect for a diverse portfolio of engineered composite products, including large-scale structural enclosures and specialized fluid management components. You will own the entire design lifecycle, from initial concept and material selection—utilizing advanced resins, fibers, and core materials—to the optimization of closed-mold manufacturing processes such as RTM and vacuum infusion. Beyond design, you will act as a strategic technical partner, collaborating with the sales team to cultivate OEM relationships and ensuring all structural designs comply with rigorous industry codes such as IBC, AASHTO, and ASCE. A critical early component of this role involves a knowledge-transfer mentorship with a retiring lead engineer, allowing you to absorb decades of institutional expertise while gradually implementing your own innovative improvements.
Location and Lifestyle Context
Based in the scenic Pacific Northwest, this position offers a professional environment where work-life integration is a lived reality rather than a corporate slogan. The region is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, offering immediate access to world-class outdoor recreation, from hiking and river activities to coastal exploration. This location provides a community-focused lifestyle with a lower cost of living than major metropolitan hubs, all while remaining connected to a vibrant regional economy driven by innovation in the environmental and engineering sectors.
Long Term Professional Trajectory
This role is positioned as a cornerstone of the engineering department’s succession plan. By stepping into a leadership vacuum created by an upcoming retirement, you will quickly become the subject matter expert for the firm’s composite division. Success in this role opens doors to senior executive technical leadership, where you will shape the long-term research and development roadmap for the company. The organization is committed to professional evolution, providing the resources for you to represent the firm at major industry conferences and maintain your status as a thought leader in composite engineering.
Compensation
The anticipated base salary for this position is $150,000 to $200,000 per year. In addition to a competitive salary, the firm provides a comprehensive suite of benefits designed to support long-term financial and personal well-being.
Team Environment and Leadership Style
You will join a culture that prioritizes safety, professional integrity, and collaborative problem-solving. The leadership style here is one of empowerment rather than micro-management; you will be given the autonomy to drive value-engineering initiatives and lead cross-functional teams across production, quality control, and project management. The environment is one of mutual respect where technical expertise is highly valued, and the collective focus remains on delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions that protect vital natural resources.
Organizational Stability and Outlook
As a vital subsidiary of a larger market-leading parent company, the organization offers the agility of a specialized manufacturer backed by the robust financial stability of a global industry giant. The demand for sustainable wastewater and infrastructure technology continues to grow, ensuring a consistent pipeline of challenging projects. The company’s focus on environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional materials positions it perfectly for the future of green infrastructure, providing a reliable and thriving professional home for years to come.
Experience and Qualification Summary
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering, or a related Materials Science discipline. We are seeking a professional with a minimum of five to ten years of experience in composite product design, with specific expertise in closed-mold processes. Proficiency in 3D modeling via SolidWorks or similar platforms is required, as is a strong grasp of structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA). While a Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly beneficial, we value the ability to interpret complex infrastructure codes and the communication skills necessary to interface with certification agencies and strategic partners.
