About the role

About Reconcept

The Role

The online platform Reconcept Portfolio has more than 50,000 users spread across more than 100 healthcare organizations in the Netherlands. More than 70% of all medical specialists in the Netherlands are trained in our platform. We are currently expanding internationally.

As a Senior Developer / Technical Lead, you will play a key role in the development of the entire application, with an emphasis on architectural choices. You will also be responsible for optimizing the existing codebase. When difficult decisions need to be made, you will make the call. Safety, user-friendliness, and innovation are of great importance to our target group and are therefore highly valued.

The backend forms the basis for multiple web and mobile applications and is developed in Ruby on Rails. We use oAuth2 for single sign on and GraphQL to make the API available to the frontend. The frontend consists of an Angular web application and a mobile app. Our work processes are tightly organized with clear goals, but are not bureaucratic. This allows us to move forward quickly.

The focus in the coming period will be on further developing the existing platform, with a number of challenging projects on the roadmap, including AI integrations such as Speech-to-Text. You will work with your colleagues from frontend and backend on the best solutions for our users and take the lead in technical choices.

What You Bring

  • You are an enthusiastic (backend) developer who has been doing nothing but creating robust applications for years.
  • You get excited about complex architectural issues.
  • You have demonstrable extensive experience developing in one or more backend frameworks, preferably Ruby on Rails (experience with frontend frameworks like Angular is a plus).
  • You enjoy moving forward quickly but also work well in a team.
  • You enjoy sharing knowledge and experience with your colleagues.
  • You are used to working in an Agile environment.
  • You want to be challenged and challenge others.
  • You are available 28 to 40 hours per week.

Benefits

  • An excellent salary
  • Flexible work from home or office
  • Motivating atmosphere in a fast-growing SaaS company.
  • Working on a large application with 50,000+ users
  • A great team with driven and entrepreneurial colleagues
  • The legendary Reconcept sweater
  • A laptop, headphones, or whatever you need
  • A fantastic office with a view over Groningen
  • 25 + 12 vacation days per year
  • Participation in our pension scheme
  • Generous budget for personal development

What are the fun challenges?

As a team, we work towards a clear goal. Each growth phase brings new challenges that you are welcome to contribute to, both proactively and when asked. Consider:

  • What makes the daily work of students and educators easier and learning moments more valuable?
  • How can we give our own project managers more configuration options so that developers are not needed for that?
  • How do we keep the platform fast as we scale to 10x more users?
  • How do we continuously develop new features while keeping the application stable (CI/CD)?
  • How do we enable AI integrations with other systems while maintaining privacy and information security?

A Day at Reconcept

In the morning, you'll go to work whistling, because this week we're putting the finishing touches on the completely redesigned app that will make thousands of doctors happy. You park your bike in the bike cellar and take the elevator (or are you sporty enough to take the stairs to the 5th floor?). Once upstairs, you check if someone has already started the coffee and take a look over Groningen.

As every day, we start with the stand-up. With a manageable group of 10 people, it goes quickly. David announces that the Pulmonology training has decided to use Reconcept nationwide with 25 hospitals. Melle has developed three solution directions for a performance issue, and the team is not entirely sure which is the best choice. With your experience, you make the decision and guide the team through why you believe this is the best trade-off between speed and sustainability. After the stand-up, you can get started right away!

Around half past ten, your stomach starts rumbling. You didn't have enough breakfast! Fortunately, the pantry here is well-stocked with snacks. Enough to keep you going for a while, because you want to look at the data model for that new feature together.

Around half past one, your colleagues start gathering in the canteen, and the sandwich maker is preheated. Daan mentions that he will send out the invitations for the team outing this afternoon.

After lunch, we gather in the game room for a quick game of Rocket League. There's fierce competition, but everyone already knows that Gerhard will win. Once everyone is together and the last remote workers have logged in via Meet, we start the retro. It seems everyone is enthusiastic about the new app. We've accomplished that!

Are you our new colleague?

We are looking for driven colleagues who want to make a difference. Use your talent to make a significant social impact.

At Reconcept, we work in a relaxed atmosphere with a passionate team on challenging projects. Because we build our own platform, you have a lot of freedom and input. This comes with a lot of creativity and responsibility. Does this suit you?

Do you see yourself here?

Is this role tailor-made for you? Maybe you're comfortable in your current position, but secretly curious. Come visit us and ask us why it's so fun to work on this fast-growing platform. Email us at or leave your details below.
