GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and engineering of complex mining and heavy industrial projects. In this role, you will provide safe, practical, and constructible solutions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with operations, project services, and other engineering disciplines. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving challenging problems and shaping high-quality engineering outcomes.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Work in compliance with all Cementation Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Identify health and safety hazards or infractions and report them to the Health and Safety Department.
- Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met through appropriate design and use of technology.
- Act as a safety champion by promoting safe behaviours and integrating safety into all designs produced by the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering design for medium to large underground mining and heavy industrial projects
- Develop practical, best‑for‑project solutions that prioritize safety, operability, constructability, and regulatory compliance
- Perform and review engineering calculations, equipment selection, and mechanical system layouts
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, operations, project management, and procurement
- Participate in technical design reviews, risk assessments, and key engineering decisions
- Support procurement through technical scope development, equipment selection, vendor evaluations, and package reviews
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, construction, and commissioning as required
- Mentor Engineers‑in‑Training and intermediate engineers, providing technical guidance and review of work
- Contribute to engineering proposal development and technical scope definition as needed

Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in mining, heavy industrial, or similar environments
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, with experience in one or more of the following areas: material handling, HVAC, ventilation, piping, pumping, pneumatics, hydraulics, rigging, and hoisting
- Proven ability to lead technical work and mentor junior engineers
ASSETS
- Experience across multiple stages of the project and engineering lifecycle, including studies, pre‑feasibility and feasibility, basic engineering, issued‑for‑construction (IFC), procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning
- Exposure to site work, construction support, and field engineering activities
- Experience using 3D mechanical design and engineering analysis software

Cementation Americas has successfully implemented a hybrid work schedule in all of our Corporate Offices. All office staff have the option of remote work Mondays and Fridays, while working the balance of the week (Tues/Wed/Thurs) in the office.
