Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Power Systems

Our client, a leading engineering firm specializing in power systems, is seeking a highly qualified Senior Electrical Design Engineer for their office in **Benin City, Edo, NG**. This role is essential for the design, development, and implementation of complex electrical power distribution and generation systems. You will lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure the technical integrity and efficiency of our clients' power infrastructure. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, power system analysis, and relevant industry codes and standards, coupled with strong leadership and problem-solving skills. This is an on-site position requiring your dedicated presence at our Benin City facility. Responsibilities: Lead the electrical design of power systems, including substations, transmission lines, distribution networks, and generation facilities. Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and panel layouts using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN). Perform power system studies, including load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, arc flash studies, and protection coordination. Specify electrical equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, motors, and generators. Ensure designs comply with national and international electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, IEC). Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, and clients to ensure project requirements are met. Review vendor drawings and submittals for compliance with design specifications. Conduct site visits for existing infrastructure assessments, construction support, and commissioning activities. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues during the design, construction, and operational phases of projects. Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers, fostering technical development and promoting best practices. Prepare technical specifications, reports, and project documentation. Develop and manage project timelines and budgets for electrical design tasks. Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and methodologies in electrical power engineering. Ensure the safety and reliability of all designed power systems. Participate in design reviews and provide technical leadership to the engineering team. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical power system design. Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility is highly desirable. Proven experience leading electrical design projects and mentoring engineering teams. Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN). Strong experience with power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory). In-depth knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulations relevant to power systems. Excellent understanding of power generation, transmission, and distribution principles. Experience with protection and control systems design. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a project-team environment and manage multiple priorities. Experience with renewable energy integration is a plus. Familiarity with substation design and equipment is advantageous.
