Our client, a leading industrial automation company, is seeking an accomplished Senior Electrical Engineer with expertise in Control Systems to join their dedicated team in Welkom, Free State, ZA. This is an on-site role, offering the opportunity to work hands-on with cutting-edge technology and contribute to the development of innovative automated solutions. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting complex control systems across various industrial applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical control systems, including PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems.
• Specify and select electrical components, sensors, actuators, and instrumentation.
• Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using CAD software.
• Implement and commission control systems for industrial machinery and processes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues related to control systems.
• Perform system integration and testing to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals and maintenance guides.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, software developers, and project managers to ensure seamless project execution.
• Conduct root cause analysis for system failures and implement corrective actions.
• Provide technical support and training to clients and field service technicians.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in industrial automation and control systems.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and client requirements.
• Manage project timelines and budgets for control system design and implementation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in electrical engineering with a strong focus on industrial control systems.
• Proficiency in PLC programming platforms such as Siemens (TIA Portal, Step 7), Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley), or similar.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA software (e.g., Ignition, WinCC, FactoryTalk View).
• Strong understanding of industrial networks (e.g., Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
• Knowledge of VFDs, servo drives, and motor control principles.
• Familiarity with industrial safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and technical documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Experience with robotics programming is a plus.
