Electrical Engineer – Data Centre Project

Project Description

A leading international developer is delivering a hyperscale data centre campus in Berlin, consisting of multiple data halls, redundant power infrastructure, and highly resilient building services. The project is currently in the detailed design and construction phase and requires an experienced Electrical Engineer to support delivery of critical power systems. The role will work closely with the Electrical Lead, construction teams, and specialist vendors to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality execution of the electrical scope.

Role & Responsibilities

• Support the design, implementation, and verification of electrical systems for a mission-critical data centre facility.
• Review and coordinate electrical design documentation, specifications, and drawings.
• Provide technical support during installation of:
• MV and LV power distribution systems
• Transformers and switchgear
• UPS systems and battery energy storage
• Backup generation and emergency power
• Earthing and lightning protection
• Respond to technical queries (RFIs/TQs) from contractors and vendors.
• Support FATs, SATs, and site inspections.
• Assist during commissioning, energisation, and handover phases.
• Ensure compliance with German standards (VDE), IEC regulations, and project specifications.
• Coordinate closely with mechanical, ICT, and controls disciplines.

Required Experience & Skills

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8–15+ years’ experience on complex electrical projects.
• Proven experience on data centre, mission-critical, or large industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of:
• MV/LV systems and protection schemes
• Redundant power architectures (N+1, 2N)
• UPS and standby power systems
• Experience working in EPC, EPCM, or client-side project environments.
• Familiarity with construction-phase engineering support is essential.
• Fluent English and German language skills are required.

Contract Details

• Engagement: Freelance / Independent Consultant
• Location: Predominantly on-site in Berlin
• Duration: 12–18 months with possible extension
• Rate: Competitive daily rate based on experience
