Within Sigma Connectivity you will never work alone.
JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Senior System Software / Embedded Firmware Engineer with a strong electrical engineering test and debug background, focused on system‑level power characterization and optimization on Qualcomm‑based platforms.
This role is hardware‑first and emphasizes embedded firmware, electrical measurements, and lab‑based investigation, with sufficient system software experience to perform first‑order analysis of software‑driven power and performance issues. While Android and Linux knowledge are required, this role is not for a pure Android framework expert.
You will work hands‑on with product schematics, power delivery networks, and lab instruments, build structured test matrices, communicate with EE and hardware teams, and digest and reason about system power models. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between schematics, bench instruments, low‑level firmware, and system software logs to explain real‑world power behavior.
Responsibilities
Electrical & Power Measurement / Debug (Primary Focus)
- Lead hands‑on power measurement and debug activities, including current, voltage, rail‑level, and transient analysis using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads, and bench supplies.
- Work directly from product schematics to understand power architecture, sequencing, and power‑delivery behavior.
- Build and execute structured test matrices covering operating modes, workloads, power states, and environmental conditions.
- Diagnose power anomalies by correlating electrical measurements with system behavior, thermal response, and software activity.
- Proactively investigate unexpected power drains, instability, or peak‑power events.
Embedded Firmware & System Software (Supporting Focus)
- Perform first‑order investigation of software and firmware contributors to power and performance issues.
- Debug and analyze power behavior across:
- Embedded firmware (MCU / peripheral FW)
- Linux kernel and device drivers
- Android system services and power management layers (as needed)
- Understand and reason about CPU governors, idle states, suspend/resume behavior, and firmware‑controlled power features.
- Work closely with firmware and platform teams to align hardware power intent with software behavior.
Power Modeling & Analysis
- Consume, interpret, and reason about system power models and budgets.
- Validate measured data against expected power models and identify deviations.
- Communicate findings clearly to EE, HW, FW, and system teams.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Act as a strong bridge between electrical engineering, hardware design, firmware, and system software teams.
- Support platform bring‑up, lab characterization, and customer investigations.
- Provide feedback into design‑for‑power and design‑for‑test improvements.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in embedded systems, with a strong mix of EE lab work and embedded firmware/system software.
- Strong electrical test and debug background, including:
- Reading and working from schematics
- Power‑rail analysis
- Instrument‑based measurements and correlation with system behavior
- Solid experience with embedded firmware development (MCU, SoC firmware, bootloader, or low‑level drivers).
- Working knowledge of Linux and/or Android system software, sufficient to:
- Investigate power/performance issues
- Interpret logs, traces, and system states
- Ability to independently define test plans, build test matrices, and drive investigations proactively.
- Strong analytical skills and confidence working with incomplete or ambiguous data.
Preferred / Plus Qualifications
- Experience working with Qualcomm platforms or similar complex SoCs.
- Familiarity with system‑level power measurement frameworks (Qualcomm internal or equivalent).
- Experience digesting and validating power models and power budgets.
- Android power/thermal framework familiarity (helpful but not the primary focus).
- Experience with factory, EVT/DVT, or lab‑based power characterization.
- Exposure to embedded RTOS or bare‑metal development.
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS, PERSONAL TRAITS AND EXPERIENCE
Personal characteristics:
- Team player
- Proactiveness in collaborating and execution
- Flexibility to switch technical context
- Willingness to learn new methods/tools/processes
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and take ownership
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
