Senior Energy Project Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Energy Project Manager to lead and deliver complex energy infrastructure projects. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to manage significant projects from anywhere within South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in energy development, project finance, and stakeholder management, with a proven ability to navigate the intricacies of the energy sector. The role allows flexible working arrangements across South Africa and is conceptually linked to George, Western Cape, ZA, but requires no physical presence there.

Responsibilities

• Lead the full lifecycle management of energy projects, from feasibility studies and planning to construction and commissioning.
• Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, budget, schedule, and resource allocation.
• Manage project risks, identify potential issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Oversee the procurement process for project‑related goods and services, including contract negotiation.
• Liaise with key stakeholders, including government agencies, utility providers, investors, and community groups.
• Ensure projects comply with all relevant regulations, environmental standards, and safety requirements.
• Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators, and provide regular status reports to senior management.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with project partners, contractors, and suppliers.
• Identify and evaluate new project opportunities in the renewable and conventional energy sectors.
• Mentor junior project managers and contribute to the development of project management best practices within the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil), Business, or a related field.
• Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in project management, with a significant focus on the energy sector (renewables, power generation, transmission).
• Proven track record of successfully managing large‑scale energy projects from initiation to completion.
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, Agile).
• Experience with project finance, budgeting, and contract management.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
• Knowledge of South African energy policies, regulations, and market dynamics.
• PMP or similar project management certification is highly desirable.
