Job Description
Senior Engineer Energy – International Assignment
This position is a remote position; however, requires an international assignment at our Chalk River office, located in Ontario, Canada. Relocation to Canada is not required, and housing is provided in Canada; you may travel back to the U.S. every two to three months for one week, depending on business needs.

How will you contribute to the team?
- Provides technical proficiency for waste planning, quantification, establishing the nature and complexity of waste, radiometric determinations, reviewing and validating data, waste route selection and consignment.
- Draws on a high level of waste expertise, guides the definition of technical requirements and standards at a programme and project level and ensures correct implementation of waste management activities within scope, schedule, cost and risk.
- Through positive interaction with stakeholders supports the implementation of CNL’s Integrated Waste Strategy in a manner which aligns with industry best‑practice, delivers value for money and assists the development of commercial and scientific opportunities in anticipation of future industry requirements.
- Supports directly with waste generators that face these challenges and provides experienced customer service.
- Reviews and presents waste reports completed by the project team for waste generators and/or senior management to ensure legal compliance and liability reduction.
- Provides waste management planning guidance in alignment with CNL waste management processes and procedures.
- Develops detailed strategies and plans for managing specific types of nuclear wastes with non‑radiological hazardous constituents (e.g., mixed wastes).
- Supports in developing suitable qualified and experienced waste professionals to ensure credibility in CNL’s waste management programme.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What will you contribute?
- Requires a BS degree in engineering or science field, coupled with at least 10‑15+ years of significant and varied experience in radioactive waste management including direct experience successfully supporting decommissioning and environmental remediation projects.
- Experience in waste processing, including sorting and segregation, packaging, transportation and minimization techniques.
- Extensive awareness and understanding of international guidance, industry best‑practices and the regulatory aspects of radioactive waste management.
- Experience with developing innovative solutions to challenging waste forms, including mixed waste and cost‑effective treatment options available to meet waste acceptance criteria of waste receipt facilities.
- Ability to ensure that requirements are and can be demonstrated through application of verification and validation techniques.
- Extensive understanding of nuclear management systems including quality control and quality assurance programs, as they apply to radioactive waste management.
- Ability to collaborate with others to achieve a single integrated and optimum solution which ensures that the needs of the waste generator are addressed as well as other factors arising from safety and environmental requirements and industry best practices.
- Ability to work against an agreed delivery schedule with the ability to identify and understand risks and issues to delivery as well as being able to clearly communicate and elevate these when needed.
- This position is a remote position; however, requires an international assignment at our Chalk River office, located in Ontario, Canada.
