Location & Work Schedule

This position can be based at one of our offices in Dallas, Houston, Medford, New York, Oakland, Portland, San Diego, Seattle, or Austin, allowing for a flexible hybrid work schedule where employees typically work three days a week from either a DNV office or at client locations. Details about specific role requirements will be discussed during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and analyze steady-state, dynamic, short-circuit models for both renewable and conventional generation resources, including solar, storage, wind, and gas turbines.
  • Independently perform and lead studies in power flow, transient stability, short-circuit analysis, and techno-economics for various applications.
  • Enhance scripting and troubleshooting processes to ensure high-quality, timely deliverables while reducing rework.
  • Collaborate with team members on study requirements, maintaining a focus on technical and commercial elements for efficient project execution.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on grid reliability and energy markets.
  • Lead technical studies for generator interconnections following ISO/RTO requirements.
  • Mentor team members by sharing expertise in generation, transmission, interconnection, and modeling principles.
  • Participate in industry stakeholder meetings to stay informed about market developments and policy changes.
  • Contribute to research and innovation initiatives focused on efficiency and capability improvements.
  • Build and nurture client relationships, assisting in preparing proposals and qualifications for new business opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, demonstrating an understanding of electric power systems and renewable energy.
  • Hands-on experience with power-system tools such as PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, and PSCAD.
  • Direct experience in transmission or distribution planning and resource interconnection analysis.
  • Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO market grid practices and interconnection model requirements.
  • Strong ability to collaborate in dynamic team settings and manage project timelines and deliverables.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time with a valid driver's license.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Pre-employment drug and background screening will be conducted.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Graduate degree focusing on Electric Power Systems.
  • Experience with a variety of power system analysis software and scripting languages like Python.
  • Proven project management experience or completion of project management training.
  • Record of experience in resource interconnection studies and transmission planning.
  • Familiarity with performing power flow, transient stability, and resource planning studies.
