About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Engineer specializing in Relief Valves and Relief Systems to act as a Technical Authority supporting downstream refinery operations. This role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant pressure relief systems while enhancing technical capability across sites through training, standards, and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Technical Authority for relief valves and pressure relief systems across downstream operations
- Provide expert engineering support for relief device sizing, selection, and system calculations
- Review and approve API 520/521 compliance and flare system design exceptions
- Lead development of training and technical assurance programs for relief systems
- Support HAZOPs, flare risk assessments, and safety investigations
- Standardize technical documentation for relief and flare systems
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, inspection, and engineering teams
- Support troubleshooting, risk mitigation, and system optimization initiatives
- Participate in front-end project development and engineering design reviews
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
- 8+ years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or upstream industries
- Strong expertise in relief system design and pressure relief calculations
- Deep knowledge of API 520, API 521, and related industry standards
- Experience with process simulation tools (HYSYS, Aspen Flare Analyzer, PetroSim, etc.)
- Understanding of process engineering deliverables (PFDs, P&IDs, heat & material balance)
- Strong technical communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience in front-end engineering design (FEED) preferred
