About the role

Duties

  • Drive technical excellence in all activities related to the mission of the NSWCPD, ensuring the implementation of sound engineering practices and effective management for surface ship, carrier, submarine, and vehicle machinery systems.
  • Act as a key advocate for the engineering interests of NSWCPD at various levels, including PAEs, NAVSEA, and the Warfare Centers, to align project and product reviews with technical authority.
  • Provide oversight and technical guidance for the management of the NSWCPD SUBSAFE Program, collaborating with the Quality Manager to guarantee the quality of technical products and engineering processes.
  • Offer expert technical advice to the NSWCPD Technical Director while formulating and communicating command technical priorities and strategies, including standardized approaches for risk assessment and status reporting.
  • Deliver authoritative guidance on advanced science and technology concerning ship and ship systems design and machinery systems to Fleet Commanders, Systems Commands, academia, and other stakeholders.
  • Fulfill the role of Technical Warrant Holder as the NSWC Philadelphia Waterfront CHENG, participating in the Waterfront CHENG Community of Interest/Council of CHENGs on behalf of NSWC Philadelphia.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must pass suitability and employment verification checks including E-Verify.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Males born after 12-31-1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment.
  • Obtain and maintain required security clearance prior to commencing duties.
  • This position is a designated Critical Acquisition Position (CAP), requiring a three-year tenure agreement unless waived.
  • Required to complete a pre-employment drug test and may be subject to random testing.
  • Travel may be required to CONUS and OCONUS locations, including remote sites.
  • As a supervisor in the executive branch, adherence to government ethics principles is essential.

Education

Applicants must hold a degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, meeting prescribed requirements. An advanced degree is highly desirable.
