Job Summary

The Credit Union Accountant supports the Finance Department by performing advanced accounting functions, including account reconciliations, financial reporting, and transaction processing. This role serves as a resource for the Accounting Assistant and collaborates with the Senior Accounting Operations Specialist to ensure accurate and timely financial operations in compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, investments, loans, and fixed assets; resolve complex discrepancies, while ensuring compliance with GAAP, NCUA regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, support strategic financial planning.
  • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial transactions.
  • Monitor and report on financial performance and trends.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules and documentation.
  • Research and interpret accounting standards and regulatory changes, advising management on implications.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training and guidance as needed.
  • Recommend and support the implementation of process and system enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information and sensitive data.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and accounting standards, and research and interpret accounting standards while informing management of implications.
  • Prepare 5300 Call Report.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Specifications/Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations (GAAP, NCUA, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); experience with Symitar and ProfitStars preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required;
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive accounting experience in credit unions or financial institutions.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with NCUA regulations, internal controls, and risk management practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential job functions safely and effectively, in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Must maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with relevant legal standards and organizational policies.

Pay

$80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
