Leidos' Digital Modernization sector is on the lookout for a skilled Senior Firewall Solutions Engineer to enhance our cyber security efforts. This position is located at the Pentagon and is 100% on‑site. We’re seeking an expert who can effectively design, implement, and manage sophisticated firewall solutions to protect our network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring experience with firewall technologies such as Cisco ASA, Juniper SRX, and Palo Alto, along with a solid foundation in security networking.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage firewall solutions utilizing Cisco ASA/Firepower, Juniper SRX, and Palo Alto technologies.
  • Continuously monitor firewall performance and security logs to quickly identify and address potential threats.
  • Develop and enforce comprehensive network security policies and procedures.
  • Conduct system audits to verify compliance with established standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with IT, Security, and Network teams to ensure seamless integration of firewall solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and promptly resolve network and firewall‑related issues while documenting the process within ticket systems.
  • Regularly maintain and update firewall configurations, including security policies and ACLs, as approved by Change Management.
  • Lead the Firewall Task Area by:
    • Acting as the focal point for all firewall tasks, operations, projects, and assessments.
    • Ensuring timely delivery of all tasks and projects.
    • Providing written reports and oral briefings to the Government Task Lead and PMO Team.
    • Conducting annual performance assessments and periodic check‑ins for team members.
    • Validating and approving time charging for both Leidos and vendor personnel.
    • Offering coaching and mentoring to personnel.
    • Developing and executing continual service improvement strategies to enhance operational processes and achieve project goals.

Required Clearance and Certifications

  • Must possess an active DoD Top Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI; an active TS/SCI is preferred.
  • Must have DoD 8570 IAT II or higher certification before starting the role.
  • Must hold a valid Juniper, Cisco, or Palo Alto certification prior to starting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of directly relevant experience, with additional military or pertinent work experience considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 3 years of experience with firewalls in a DoD environment.
  • Strong background in planning, directing, and managing a firewall team within a similar‑sized organization.
  • Proven track record of implementing perimeter and internal firewalls in both physical and virtual environments.
  • Extensive experience in managing standard baseline configurations across multiple firewalls.
  • Expertise in evaluating rules to maximize security while minimizing redundancy.
  • Experience in researching and deploying innovative firewall technologies.

Through the J6 Penetration Handling, Incident, System Health (PHISH) support services, we deliver IT products, services, and solutions to the Pentagon and various DoD offices to meet mission and business needs. Our Cybersecurity team executes defensive measures to assist J6 in preventing, detecting, responding to, and recovering from adversarial activities.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $131,300.00 – $237,350.00
