Senior Industrial Automation Engineer - Process Control Systems

Our client, a leading industrial manufacturer, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Industrial Automation Engineer to join their advanced manufacturing facility in **Lagos, Lagos, NG**. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of sophisticated process control systems (PCS) and automation solutions that drive operational efficiency and product quality. You will work with cutting-edge technologies, including PLCs, SCADA systems, HMI, and robotics, to optimize production processes. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in electrical engineering, control systems, and programming, coupled with excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to system improvement. This hybrid role combines essential on-site technical expertise with strategic off-site planning.

Responsibilities: Design, develop, and implement automation and control systems for manufacturing processes. Program and configure PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell), HMIs, and SCADA systems. Develop and maintain system documentation, including P&IDs, electrical schematics, and functional design specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automation hardware and software to minimize downtime. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, maintenance) to define automation requirements and solutions. Lead and mentor junior automation engineers and technicians. Implement process improvements and system upgrades to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety. Stay current with new automation technologies and industry best practices. Perform system commissioning, testing, and validation. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards. Develop and maintain robust cybersecurity measures for industrial control systems. Contribute to the selection and integration of new automation equipment. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of experience in industrial automation engineering, with a focus on process control. Proficiency in programming and configuring major PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley Logix 5000). Experience with SCADA and HMI software (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View). Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet). Knowledge of robotics programming and integration is a plus. Experience with VFDs, servo systems, and motion control. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong analytical and documentation skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Familiarity with manufacturing execution systems (MES) is desirable. Understanding of functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508/61511).
