About the role

Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Industrial Engineer to drive plant optimization initiatives within their manufacturing facilities. This hybrid role offers a blend of remote work flexibility and on-site collaboration, focusing on enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs, and improving product quality. You will be instrumental in analyzing complex production systems, developing innovative solutions, and implementing best practices in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis of existing manufacturing processes to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for process optimization, capacity enhancement, and cost reduction.
  • Design and re-engineer production layouts and workflows to maximize productivity and minimize waste.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) to streamline operations.
  • Utilize Six Sigma methodologies to solve complex quality and process problems.
  • Conduct time and motion studies to establish standard work times and improve labor efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational performance and identify trends.
  • Collaborate with operations, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to implement process improvements.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and project proposals for management review.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards throughout the plant.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
  • Manage projects related to process improvement, from conception to completion.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial engineering, with a focus on manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred), and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software, CAD, and project management tools.
  • Excellent understanding of production planning, scheduling, and inventory control.
  • Experience in designing and optimizing production lines and factory layouts.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing significant operational improvements.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • A proactive and results-oriented mindset.

This role is based in George, Western Cape, ZA, and requires a hybrid work arrangement, involving both remote work and on-site presence for key meetings, site assessments, and team collaborations. You will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on our operational excellence.
