About
We are looking for an experienced Senior IoT Gateway / Embedded Systems Engineer to design and develop robust industrial IoT and edge solutions for large-scale distributed infrastructures. The role focuses on building high-performance gateway and communication systems that connect field devices, sensors, metering systems, and building automation components to centralized IoT and business platforms. You will work on cutting-edge IoT/OT architectures in environments such as smart buildings, energy systems, industrial automation, and connected infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop industrial IoT gateway and edge computing solutions
- Develop embedded software for Linux-based edge and gateway devices
- Integrate field devices, sensors, meters, and automation systems into scalable IoT platforms
- Implement secure and reliable communication between OT and IT systems
- Develop protocol adapters and connectivity layers for industrial communication standards
- Build data aggregation, preprocessing, and edge analytics solutions
- Design and optimize distributed IoT architectures for high availability and scalability
- Work with cloud and on-premise IoT platforms
- Support CI/CD pipelines for embedded and IoT deployments
- Collaborate with hardware, cloud, backend, and infrastructure teams
- Ensure security, reliability, and maintainability of industrial networking environments
Preferred Profile
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related field
- Several years of experience in embedded systems and industrial IoT development
- Strong problem-solving and system architecture skills
- Passion for industrial connectivity and edge technologies
- Professional proficiency in German and English

- Strong experience with:

- Experience with industrial edge devices and gateway systems
- Knowledge of low-level and hardware-near software development
- Experience with Docker and container technologies
Industrial Communication & Protocols
Strong experience with industrial communication protocols and field buses including:
- Modbus (RTU/TCP)
- BACnet
- KNX
- OPC-UA
- MQTT
- CAN Bus
- RS485
- LoRaWAN
- M-Bus
- TCP/IP-based industrial communication
IoT / OT Architecture
- Experience designing IoT and OT integration architectures
- Strong understanding of device connectivity and industrial networking
- Experience with secure communication and OT network design
- Knowledge of distributed edge and gateway infrastructures
Device & Infrastructure Integration
Experience integrating and connecting:
- Smart meters and metering infrastructure
- Water and energy meters
- Sensors and industrial devices
- PV systems and battery storage
- HVAC and building automation systems
- Industrial and facility infrastructure
Nice to Have
- Experience with smart building technologies
- Knowledge of energy management systems
- Experience with industrial PCs and edge hardware

Employment Details
The position is to be filled within the framework of temporary employment. The employment contract is limited to 12 months, with the possibility of permanent employment afterwards. Remote work is possible, with two on-site days per month.
