About

The Senior Manager of Affiliate Marketing Operations, Relationship Management & Compliance will be responsible for overseeing the marketing we perform with affiliate partners from planning and execution to monitoring, analysis and campaign optimization. You will lead a team of five marketing and process managers (four associates and one contractor) to manage the day‑to‑day interactions with affiliate partners and perform a number of well‑managed activities to ensure our affiliate marketing is compliant. We will look for the Senior Manager to put together the marketing strategy and own a roadmap for each affiliate partner. We also expect the Senior Manager to be in tune with affiliate marketing best practices and understand publisher performance to help continuously optimize our program. The candidate needs to be a strong communicator and skilled in managing partner expectations, while concurrently maintaining delivery momentum.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Capital One’s portfolio of more than 20+ affiliates, developing and managing relationships with these partners. This entails:
    • Serving as the central point of contact from Capital One with the different affiliate partners, owning the broader communication strategy
    • Holding regular meetings and managing email communication to keep affiliate partners apprised of product and intent changes
    • Tracking down answers to any ad hoc questions our business partners or affiliate partners have
    • Attending and meeting with partners at key industry conferences
    • Providing regular feedback to affiliate partners on things that are going well and areas of improvement
    • Managing contractual terms with individual affiliate partners
    • Continuously monitor performance and market/industry/competitive trends in order to make recommendations for how to optimize partnerships and drive the most business value through different affiliate partners
  • Oversee the team in managing payout changes with affiliate partners and managing an allow list which directs which product(s) we market with different affiliate partners
  • Research, recruit and onboard new affiliate partners to the program
  • Onboard new products with existing affiliate partners
  • Manage bi‑annual process to review affiliate performance and offboard any identified partners
  • Put together and manage roadmaps for our different affiliates
  • Support technical integrations as needed between affiliate partners and Capital One
  • Manage the creative development process either
    (1) acting as a creative consultant to our affiliate partners as they design advertising on our behalf and reviewing the content through our legal review process, or
    (2) partnering with our internal creative team/agencies to develop ads to place on affiliate sites, in affiliate emails, etc.
  • Ensure affiliate partners meet all compliance requirements, effectively managing risk for Capital One
  • Conduct monthly audits of the work our vendor, Impact, is doing on our behalf to spot check for accuracy
  • Oversee the legal review process for content produced by affiliates
  • Maintain a complete and accurate list of monetized URLs at all times
  • Complete ongoing monitoring and reporting to ensure affiliates are meeting our compliance requirements and liaise with risk to document and remediate any issues as necessary
  • Manage the relationship with our third‑party vendor, Impact, helping to influence their platform roadmap
  • Work closely with internal partners from the business team, data, tech, Brand, PR, legal, ESM, risk, etc. to manage affiliate marketing strategy
  • Liaise with our PR team to align on communication strategy with affiliate partners
  • Liaise with our data partners that support the underlying infrastructure for the performance feedback loop to affiliate partners or invoice reconciliation support
  • Responsible for overseeing budget management process ensuring affiliate partners are paid accurately each month
  • Ensure the team is appropriately documenting processes to be well managed and continuously seek to automate/streamline processes to make the team more efficient

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree or Military experience
  • At least 3 years of experience managing people
  • At least 4 years of experience in Affiliate Marketing
  • At least 8 years of experience in digital acquisition marketing and paid media

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience managing people
  • At least 8 years of experience in Affiliate Marketing overseeing high volume and multi‑million dollar marketing budgets
  • At least 3 years of experience with marketing analytics and optimization
  • At least 2 years of experience in project management
  • At least 2 years of experience using Impact
  • Experience working for an affiliate, affiliate marketing agency or brand that manages affiliate marketing in house

Salary

  • McLean, VA: $177,700 – $202,800 for Sr. Manager, Marketing
  • Richmond, VA: $161,500 – $184,300 for Sr. Manager, Marketing

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. The actual annualized salary amount offered will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

Incentive Compensation

This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan.
