Job Summary

This position sits within the Equinix Global Design and Construction team (over 250 people) who deliver over 70 projects globally per year (in excess of $3 Bn capex). The Senior Project Manager role is vital for the prosperity of our projects and will involve overseeing and managing various aspects of the datacentre project cycle from:

  • Inception: Initial stages of the project, gaining stakeholder alignment, approval, and advance funding for design and pre‑construction activities.
  • Construction: Overseeing the completion of the design and pre‑construction process, ensuring high levels of quality and safety are achieved.
  • Testing & Acceptance: Plan and execute a rigorous testing program to ensure the facility functions as designed and meets the expectations of Operations and customers.
  • Transition: Facilitate the hand‑off of the project to site operations, ensuring all customer requirements are accommodated.
  • Direct day‑to‑day activities/operations of a team of Construction/Operation Project Managers. Mentor junior team members and make strong tactical decisions to resolve project issues. Manage construction project costs, methods, and project team selection to meet schedules and goals while working in a multi‑faceted environment.

Responsible for all aspects of datacentre design & construction for the respective project—from inception through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and hand‑over of an operating facility, which could include ground‑up construction, fit‑outs, remodels, etc. May be responsible for one or more projects and will direct all partners, internal (Design, Procurement, Operations, Security, IT/Network) and external vendors (contractors, design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.). Responsible for driving a safe, quality‑first culture, ensuring that all applicable codes, standards, and good construction practices are followed, and that internal controls are adhered to at each step through effective contract administration.

Responsibilities

Management

  • Provides guidance to Construction Project Managers who are driving the delivery of day‑to‑day construction projects.
  • Sets goals for immediate team members.

Project Management

  • Manages one or more construction projects at a time.
  • Leads by example on safety, standards, and culture.
  • Manages and monitors project progress, quality, and compliance with building regulations.
  • Ensures projects are meeting or exceeding company expectations.
  • Oversees and manages project risk registers.

Vendor Relations

  • Directs external vendors per project, including general contractors, design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.
  • Contributes to establishing and maintaining high‑value relationships.

Training Programs

  • Supports identifying and developing training programs.
  • Supports cross‑functional training.

Contract Administration

  • Manages contract administration procedures, including generation, review, and monitoring of prime contracts, subcontracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents.
  • Liaises with local authorities and relevant state agencies and departments.

Leadership

  • Directs internal and external project team members, including internal Design, Procurement, Operations, Commercial, and IT/Network support teams.
  • Mentors junior team members as needed.

Policy & Procedure Development

  • Manages and maintains best‑in‑class policies and procedures.
  • Manages project closure, handover, and ensures lessons‑learned processes are established and implemented.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in construction, construction project management and/or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in project and construction management that includes critical infrastructure for datacentre, pharmaceutical, biotech, or similar environments.
  • Site‑based; Monday to Friday is required.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Customer‑focused, self‑motivated, and flexible.
  • In‑depth knowledge of relevant statutory regulations and industry best practices.
  • Experience in construction procurement methodologies.
  • Experience in the adoption of off‑site manufacturing methods in construction.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Project, Excel, and Visio.
  • Proficiency in Primavera and Procore would be beneficial.
  • English language is a must; proficiency in French would be beneficial.
