Job Description Summary
The Senior Manager of Data Engineering is focused on the development of modern architectures to enable data-driven digital business across the enterprise. Helps define data strategies, grow capabilities, and develop the enterprise data platform team. Provides team members with career development opportunities, mentoring, and guidance in architectural and design decisions.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to the enterprise data platform team in order to deliver quality solutions and deliver a robust data processing infrastructure for the enterprise.
- Partner with stakeholders across the organization to provide direction and translate strategic priorities/goal into defined tactical action plans and milestones.
- Work with cross functional leaders to understand and influence business strategy, set priorities, and define technology goals.
- Identify opportunities related to data assets and champion the development of a real-time, self-service, analytically driven business model utilizing business intelligence solutions, data visualization, big data, data marts, and data warehouse systems to improve business processes, solve business problems, and enhance decision-making capabilities.
- Ensure high quality service is achieved through oversight, monitoring key performance indicators and internal controls and keeping abreast of market events and industry changes.
- Experiment with new technologies and participate in internal/external technology communities to keep up with technical trends.
- Act quickly and appropriately to solve problems, bring clarity, and minimize the impact of unforeseen circumstances.
- Embrace and demonstrate a culture of change and innovation which constructively challenges the status quo and leads to prudent experimentation.
- Have a growth mindset with the ability to adopt new practices and spearhead adoption.
- Partner across technical platform ownership to define and drive the on premise and cloud information management strategy.
- Oversee the quality, delivery, performance, cost and scope for data engineering initiatives.
- Develop staff through coaching, provide timely performance feedback and assessments and establish performance and development plans.
- Mentor current and future leaders, ensuring a constantly rising bar in technical excellence and professional growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, math, engineering, or relevant technical field
- Eight years of collective experience in the application of data engineering, data analytics, data warehousing, business intelligence, database administration and data integration concepts and methodologies
- Six years of experience in delivery of large-scale data projects across a broad spectrum of enterprise operational functions
- Four years of experience managing diverse cross-functional team
- Strong background with execution of DevOps methodologies and continuous integration/continuous delivery within a large-scale data delivery environment
- Familiarity with data science techniques and frameworks
- Demonstrated leadership capability and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management
- Able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to lead white board discussions and presentations, and provide information to technical and non-technical audiences
- Creative thinker with strong analytical skills to synthesize ambiguous and complex information and formulate substantive actionable outcomes
- Results oriented with a strong customer focus
- Proficiency in driving change, questioning assumptions, and pushing for innovative solutions
- Ability to work in a complex, highly matrixed environment, and identify, define, and resolve organizational issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g. computer science, math, engineering)
- Understanding of big data and real time streaming analytics processing architecture and ecosystems
- Experience with data warehousing architecture and implementation
- Experience with advanced analytics and machine learning concepts and technology implementations
- Experience with data analysis and data visualization tools
- Relevant technology or platform certification (AWS, Microsoft, etc.)
Working Conditions
- Hybrid-Office Environment (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays)
- Frequent Travel 25 to 50%
Compensation
The Salary for this position generally ranges between $144,000 - $190,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company’s discretion.

This is a hybrid position requiring three days in office per week in one of our hub locations (Philadelphia, PA; Cedar Rapids, IA; Denver, CO). Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
