Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Near Munich, Germany - onsite working required

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and motivated Lead Mechanical Designer in Precision Engineering to join and further strengthen their engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of high-end equipment modules with precision performance below 1 µm
• Deliver subassemblies with validated precision and long-term reliability for 24/7 mass production equipment
• Apply a systems engineering mindset across all engineering phases, from customer requirement alignment through to final qualification in production systems
• Develop a deep understanding of core manufacturing processes including:
  • Optical Module Assembly (free-space optics, fiber optics, wafer-level photonics)
  • Data storage system manufacturing
  • Precision die-attach technologies
• Translate complex process requirements into robust mechanical design specifications
• Introduce innovative technologies and engineering solutions to significantly improve process speed and overall precision
• Transfer solutions to HQ engineering teams and support design optimization for volume manufacturing scale-up
• Support internal capability development and contribute to strategic and business direction initiatives

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related technical field
• Minimum 7 years of experience within a precision automation environment, including several years in a technical leadership role
• Strong expertise in:
  • Precision engineering
  • System simulation (static, dynamic, thermal)
  • Advanced materials
  • 3D printing technologies
  • Motion control systems and sensor integration
• Proven track record in building precision equipment for Advanced Packaging applications, particularly within photonics and semiconductor industries
• Deep understanding of manufacturing environments from both equipment supplier and shopfloor perspectives
• Excellent communication and presentation skills in English
• Strong intercultural awareness, collaborative mindset, and problem-solving capabilities in international environments
