Our client, a prestigious automotive component manufacturer renowned for its innovation and quality, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their advanced engineering team. This is a permanent, on-site position requiring a deep expertise in mechanical design principles and a passion for creating cutting‑edge automotive solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of complex mechanical systems and components, contributing to the next generation of automotive technology. Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems for automotive applications, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD) for 3D modeling, drafting, and simulation.
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to validate designs and optimize performance under various operating conditions.
- Develop detailed technical specifications, design drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOMs).
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, R&D, testing, and quality assurance, to ensure successful product development from concept to production.
- Create prototypes and oversee testing procedures to validate designs and identify areas for improvement.
- Troubleshoot design issues and implement effective solutions throughout the product lifecycle.
- Conduct design reviews and present technical findings to internal stakeholders and clients.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering and automotive design.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the engineering department.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant automotive standards and regulations (e.g., ISO/TS 16949).
- Manage project timelines and resources effectively for assigned design tasks.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a significant focus on the automotive industry.
- Expertise in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) for complex 3D modeling and detailing.
- Strong knowledge of FEA and CFD analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
- Deep understanding of material science, manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, machining, stamping), and design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Experience with automotive specific design requirements and standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Strong project management capabilities and the ability to lead technical initiatives.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in technical documentation and report writing.
- A strong portfolio showcasing successful mechanical design projects is a plus.
Location
This role is based in our client's engineering center in Benin City, Edo, NG. It requires the engineer to be physically present to leverage lab facilities and collaborate directly with manufacturing and testing teams.
