Our client, a leading manufacturer of high-performance automotive components, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their innovative R&D department located in Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA. This role is critical for the design, development, and testing of cutting-edge automotive systems. You will be responsible for pushing the boundaries of mechanical engineering within the automotive sector, contributing to the creation of next-generation vehicle technologies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in mechanical design principles, materials science, and a passion for automotive innovation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of new automotive mechanical components and systems, from concept to production.
- Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) to create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings.
- Perform rigorous engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration testing, using FEA and other simulation tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, manufacturing specialists, and quality control, to ensure integrated product development.
- Conduct design validation through prototyping, testing, and data analysis.
- Identify and implement design improvements to enhance product performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Stay abreast of the latest automotive industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and manufacturing instructions.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence within the team.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical design issues during development and production.
Qualifications
- Essential qualifications include a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in mechanical design, with a significant focus on the automotive industry, is required.
- Proven experience with automotive component design, including powertrain, chassis, or interior systems, is essential.
- Proficiency in CAD and FEA software is mandatory.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with excellent communication and teamwork abilities, are critical.
- Experience with South African automotive standards and manufacturing processes would be advantageous.

This position is based on-site in Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA.
