Senior Mechanical Engineer (PrEng)

Introduction

Our client, a reputable consulting engineering firm, is seeking a registered and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their Cape Town office. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong professional who combines engineering expertise with leadership capability and hands-on project experience.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality mechanical engineering solutions while mentoring junior staff and engaging with clients and stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead and manage mechanical engineering projects, ensuring quality delivery, compliance, and adherence to budgets and timelines

• Provide technical and design leadership, delivering innovative and practical engineering solutions

• Oversee the full project lifecycle, from concept through to completion

• Independently manage multiple projects, reporting to and collaborating with senior leadership

• Mentor and develop junior engineers, supporting their professional growth

• Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution

• Conduct site visits and attend client meetings as required

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements

• B.Tech / B.Eng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering degree

• Professionally registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (PrEng)

• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in mechanical engineering design and site work

• Proven experience in the design of:

• Air-conditioning and ventilation systems (HVAC)

• Wet services

• Fire-fighting systems

• Must be actively involved in design work (not only project sign-off)

• Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD

• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage engineering design projects from inception to completion

• Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders

• Strong organisational and time management skills

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards

• Adaptability to changing project requirements and deadlines

• Willingness and ability to travel for site visits and client engagements

Additional Requirements

• Experience across multiple industries will be advantageous

• Valid driver’s license (own vehicle advantageous)
