1. Mission
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is the technical leader for all mechanical‑systems design, construction, testing and commissioning activities on airport (and related building) projects. He/She guarantees that every phase – from concept through hand‑over – meets Artelia’s quality standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
Key purpose:
- Drive the mechanical‑design studies and coordinate them with all other trades.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison with the client, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), consulting engineers, and contractors.
- Supervise the review of all submissions, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning within the mechanical discipline.

3. Key Responsibilities
a) General & Strategic
- Compliance: Uphold Artelia Airports’ Ethics & Compliance policies.
- Technical Advisory: Provide diagnostics, expert recommendations and solutions for airport installations and other building types.
- Tender Support: Contribute technical input during pre‑bid and bidding phases (scope definition, resource planning, risk assessment).
- Innovation & Knowledge Sharing: Promote new technologies, share lessons learned and best practices across the organization.
b) Construction Supervision

c) Conception & Design (when applicable)
- Design Tools: Produce and review mechanical designs using AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and other relevant software.
- Technical Documentation: Develop design calculations, specifications, equipment data sheets, and layout drawings.
- Inter‑disciplinary Coordination: Work closely with civil, electrical, structural and airport‑operations teams to integrate mechanical systems (HVAC, fire‑protection, water & drainage, fuel, etc.) into the overall project solution.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs meet all applicable codes, standards and AHJ requirements (e.g., ICAO, FAA, local building codes).
4. Required Qualifications & Experience

| Professional Registration | Chartered Engineer (CEng, PE, or equivalent) or eligible for registration. |
| Experience | • ≥ 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering for airport or large‑scale infrastructure projects. • Proven track record of leading design and construction phases, including commissioning and hand‑over. |
| Technical Skills | • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM) and related design tools. • Strong knowledge of HVAC, fire‑protection, water‑distribution, fuel‑handling and related airport‑specific systems. • Familiarity with industry standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, ISO, ICAO, FAA, local codes). |
| Project Management | • Ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams, budgets and schedules. • Experience with variation orders, claim management and contract administration. |
| Communication | Excellent written and verbal communication in English (additional languages a plus). • Ability to interact effectively with clients, AHJs, contractors and internal stakeholders. |

Responsibilities

- Provides input to the Tendering Department during the pre-bid and bidding processes to help secure new projects proposals vs technical scope of work, planning and needed resources deployment

- Works on the required site modifications, prepares and submits Variation Orders to the Client’s approval, issues Engineer’s Instructions and answers the contractors’ technical requests.
- Ensure that contractors have obtained NOC and necessary work permits from AHJs and other related airport authorities and stakeholders
- Reviews all documents related to construction work, such as but not limited to: shop drawings, method of statements, materials submissions, mock-ups, calculation notes, factories visits, maintenance manuals, as-built documentation etc… vs contractual requirements, design and specifications
- Prepares technical comments on non-conformity reports, instruction request and material approvals that will be transmitted to the Construction Manager via the Resident Engineer for validation,
- Alerts in case of claims and advises the Contract Advisor for answering claims,
- Checks the production and construction quality on site,
- Checks manufacturing of devices (including validation of prototype).
- Prepares materials and components proposals with necessary technical data and recommendations, and submits for approval to Client and related Stakeholders.
- Provides support for the preparation and submission of the progress reports (weekly, monthly, …)
- Supervises all construction work stages: Installation, commissioning, testing, punch listing and training, etc…
- Controls the on-site progress of works through regular site inspections and when deemed necessary
- Supervise the quality of work at every stage of the construction
- Attend testing and commissioning
