1. Mission

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is the technical leader for all mechanical‑systems design, construction, testing and commissioning activities on airport (and related building) projects. He/She guarantees that every phase – from concept through hand‑over – meets Artelia’s quality standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.

Key purpose:

• Drive the mechanical‑design studies and coordinate them with all other trades.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison with the client, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), consulting engineers, and contractors.
• Supervise the review of all submissions, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning within the mechanical discipline.

2. Line & Staff Relations

Reporting line	Head of Practice and/or Director, Production & Operations
Project‑level supervision	Takes direction from the Resident Engineer; provides direction to assigned engineers, inspectors and surveyors.
Functional contacts	• Project Director / Project Manager / Design Manager • Client or delegated contracting authority • AHJ & airport authorities • Other Artelia practices & departments • External consultants & sub‑consultants • Tendering & Business Development Departments • Approving authorities & other stakeholders

3. Key Responsibilities

a) General & Strategic

• Compliance: Uphold Artelia Airports’ Ethics & Compliance policies.
• Technical Advisory: Provide diagnostics, expert recommendations and solutions for airport installations and other building types.
• Tender Support: Contribute technical input during pre‑bid and bidding phases (scope definition, resource planning, risk assessment).
• Innovation & Knowledge Sharing: Promote new technologies, share lessons learned and best practices across the organization.

b) Construction Supervision

Activity	Details
Coordination	• Align with other consultants and contractors on technical issues. • Integrate design and site works across all trades.
Variation Management	Prepare and submit Variation Orders, Engineer’s Instructions, and respond to contractor technical requests.
Permits & NOCs	Verify that contractors have obtained all required NOCs, work permits and approvals from AHJs and airport authorities.
Submissions Review	• Review shop drawings, method statements, material sub‑missions, mock‑ups, calculation notes, factory visits, maintenance manuals, as‑built documents, etc., against contract, design and specification requirements. • Issue technical comments on NCRs, instruction requests and material approvals (through Resident Engineer). • Flag potential claims and advise the Contract Advisor.
Quality & Manufacturing Oversight	• Inspect construction quality on‑site. • Validate prototype and device manufacturing.
Progress Reporting	Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports and support the Construction Manager in reporting to the client.
Supervision of Works	• Oversee installation, commissioning, testing, punch‑listing and training. • Conduct regular site inspections, ensure schedule adherence and quality compliance. • Attend client, contractor, subcontractor and supplier meetings; lead internal coordination meetings. • Supervise daily tasks of inspectors and junior engineers.
Handover	Ensure final hand‑over complies with contractual performance requirements and that all documentation (as‑built, O&M manuals, warranties) is complete.

c) Conception & Design (when applicable)

• Design Tools: Produce and review mechanical designs using AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and other relevant software.
• Technical Documentation: Develop design calculations, specifications, equipment data sheets, and layout drawings.
• Inter‑disciplinary Coordination: Work closely with civil, electrical, structural and airport‑operations teams to integrate mechanical systems (HVAC, fire‑protection, water & drainage, fuel, etc.) into the overall project solution.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs meet all applicable codes, standards and AHJ requirements (e.g., ICAO, FAA, local building codes).

4. Required Qualifications & Experience

Requirement	Details
Education	Bachelor’s (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
Professional Registration	Chartered Engineer (CEng, PE, or equivalent) or eligible for registration.
Experience	• ≥ 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering for airport or large‑scale infrastructure projects. • Proven track record of leading design and construction phases, including commissioning and hand‑over.
Technical Skills	• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM) and related design tools. • Strong knowledge of HVAC, fire‑protection, water‑distribution, fuel‑handling and related airport‑specific systems. • Familiarity with industry standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, ISO, ICAO, FAA, local codes).
Project Management	• Ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams, budgets and schedules. • Experience with variation orders, claim management and contract administration.
Communication	Excellent written and verbal communication in English (additional languages a plus). • Ability to interact effectively with clients, AHJs, contractors and internal stakeholders.
Soft Skills	• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. • Leadership, mentorship and decision‑making capabilities. • High level of integrity and commitment to safety and quality.
