As your initial project assignment, you will support the unique needs of our client as a Senior Microsoft 365 Engineer.

Project Summary

AIS is seeking a Senior Microsoft 365 Engineer with deep technical expertise in Exchange Online, Exchange Hybrid, identity integration, and enterprise migration delivery. This role is responsible for leading the engineering, implementation, and operational support of Microsoft 365 messaging and hybrid identity solutions in complex enterprise environments, while mentoring junior engineers and partnering closely with architects, security teams, project managers, and customer stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation, administration, and advanced support for Exchange Online in enterprise Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Engineer and maintain Exchange Hybrid configurations, including coexistence, mail flow, organization relationships, free/busy, autodiscover, and mailbox move capabilities.
  • Design, configure, and troubleshoot complex mail flow scenarios involving connectors, accepted domains, transport rules, relay configurations, journaling dependencies, and secure message routing.
  • Lead identity-dependent messaging integrations across hybrid environments, including Entra ID synchronization, authentication dependencies, directory object consistency, and access control alignment.
  • Execute and oversee complex migration activities including Exchange Online onboarding, hybrid mailbox migrations, tenant-to-tenant migrations, archive migrations, and messaging coexistence transitions.
  • Troubleshoot escalated issues related to Exchange Hybrid, hybrid authentication, mail routing, mailbox provisioning, directory synchronization, client connectivity, and service interoperability.
  • Develop engineering standards, migration runbooks, validation procedures, rollback plans, and operational documentation to support repeatable delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership during discovery workshops, design sessions, cutover events, and post-migration stabilization efforts.
  • Support implementation of security-related controls affecting Exchange and identity, including modern authentication, MFA dependencies, conditional access impacts, and legacy protocol remediation.
  • Participate in change planning, risk identification, issue management, and root cause analysis for messaging and identity services.

Required For This Opportunity

  • 6–10+ years of experience engineering and administering Microsoft messaging and identity environments.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Exchange Online and Exchange Hybrid in enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of Exchange Server as it relates to hybrid coexistence, recipient management, mail routing, and legacy integration dependencies.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Entra Connect / Azure AD Connect, hybrid identity, directory synchronization, and authentication troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience leading or executing large-scale Exchange migration efforts, including hybrid mailbox moves, tenant transitions, or staged enterprise migrations.
  • Advanced knowledge of SMTP, DNS, MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, autodiscover, and enterprise mail flow design and troubleshooting.
  • Strong PowerShell skills for Exchange Online, Microsoft 365, and automation of administrative or migration tasks.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, migration plans, cutover checklists, and post-deployment support artifacts.

Nice To Have Skills

  • Experience with tenant-to-tenant migration tools or third-party migration platforms.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365 projects in regulated, high-security, or large enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Purview compliance features related to mailbox retention, eDiscovery, archive strategies, and data governance.
  • Knowledge of conditional access, identity protection concepts, and secure external access considerations that impact messaging and authentication.
  • Experience integrating Exchange and identity changes into broader Microsoft 365 transformation efforts.
  • Exposure to Teams, SharePoint Online, or other adjacent Microsoft 365 workloads.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications in Microsoft 365, Exchange, Azure, or Identity and Access Management.

Compensation

At AIS, we are committed to offering competitive and fair compensation that reflects the skills, experience, and contributions of each team member. The targeted base salary range for this role is $121,000-$182,000 per year. Please note that this range is provided as a guideline and the final offer will be based on several factors, including but not limited to, skillset and competencies, level of experience, education, certifications, and location.
