Senior Millwork CAD Technician (Custom Shop Drawings)
Somewhere
About the role
Role Overview: The Digital Craftsman
We are a high-end custom millwork and cabinetry firm looking for a precision-oriented Senior Millwork CAD Technician to serve as the technical engine of our design department. This is our #1 priority hire. We aren't looking for an architect or a general drafter; we need a "Digital Carpenter" who understands how custom wood assemblies are actually constructed and installed.
You will work as a technical partner to our 3-person design team. While they establish the design intent with the client, you are responsible for the technical reality—translating those concepts into 100% accurate, "clash-free," and fabrication-ready shop drawings. Success in this role means providing a seamless bridge between design and the shop floor, catching errors before they become expensive mistakes, and maintaining a high velocity in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
I. Technical Drafting & Shop Drawings
- Fabrication-Ready Output: Develop comprehensive, high-detail shop drawings in AutoCAD for custom cabinetry and complex architectural millwork.
- Millwork Logic: Apply a deep understanding of joinery, material thicknesses, and construction methods. Your drawings must be "buildable," not just "design-intent."
- Hardware & Integration: Account for all specific hardware (hinges, slides, pulls) and integrated elements like lighting or plumbing clearances within the CAD model.
- Fast-Paced Turnaround: Correct drawings in real-time to keep projects moving forward without stalling the production pipeline.
II. Site Constriction & Problem Solving
- Troubleshooting: Proactively identify site-specific challenges (un-level floors, wall tolerances, structural interferences) and propose technical solutions.
- RFI Initiation: "Flag issues and get answers." You are expected to catch discrepancies in client notes or site measurements and seek clarification immediately.
- Detail Tracking: Maintain a rigorous audit of all project details and small notes provided by the client to ensure the final product is exactly as specified.
III. Team Collaboration & Quality Control
- Design Partnership: Collaborate with our 3-person design team to refine concepts and ensure technical feasibility.
- Zero-Error Standard: Maintain an "eagle eye" for detail. Following onboarding and training, you are expected to deliver drawings with zero errors, ensuring that all specifications are met to the letter.
- Independent Execution: Manage your own project load and track details without the need for constant supervision.
Who You Are
Experience & Must-Haves
- The "Millwork" Specialist: Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in Custom Millwork/Cabinetry. Experience in general architectural or engineering firms is NOT transferable for this role.
- AutoCAD Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory.
- Construction Knowledge: You must understand millwork construction and how site constrictions affect the final install.
- Professional English: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You must be able to flag technical issues and coordinate with US-based teams clearly and confidently.
Mindset
- High Detail Orientation: You find satisfaction in the "grind" of detailed work and take pride in catching the small notes that others miss.
- Autonomous & Proactive: You are a self-starter who looks for problems to solve rather than waiting for a task list.
- Resilient: You thrive in a high-pressure, fast-turnaround environment.
